Until this week I used to say we hardly ever get snow these days, global warming, and yet here we are and as I write this it's snowing again outside my window. We are the new Norway! What's going on?

Ironically I heard that Global Warming is actually going to give us colder winters, and therefore, more snow!

I'd love someone to explain why though?

Global weather doesn't follow year on year patterns, they follow patterns that are bigger then we can actually measure.

It's not the first time. It's nothing compared to 1963.

You can have ours - I'm fed up with it.

Actually, yes. This is more snow than we've had in many a February - many a winter, in fact. I'd got into the mindset that it had almost become extinct.

this is weather, GW is climate - big diff.

It is simply due to the position of depressions and anticyclones and the wind that they generate and the direction that wind comes from.

think of this winter as a 1970's winter.

Isn't it to do with the gulf stream moving or something?

It's to do with a lot of things, but it's not unusual. People just like to make a big thing out of everything.

It's all to do with the Gulf stream, a current which keeps us warmer than we should be, the ice melting causes sea water to become diluted with fresh, changing its density which could 'turn off' the Gulf Stream and make Britain freeze, more info here:

We moved house on 9 Feb two years ago in a blizzard! So this is not that unusual.

I can recall the same sort if weather in 2006 and 2003, as well as other years. Admittedly, we have had milder winters the last two years, but this sort of weather comes up just as often.

It said, on the news, that this is the most snow we've had since 1991.
