Moving phone line entry into house
Our phone line comes into the house through the door frame (wooden). We're having the door replaced, so the line needs to be moved.
My understanding was that the line up to the main phone socket is BT's property, so we'd need to get someone out to drill a hole through the wall and feed it in/reconnect it. Is this correct? As an added complication, we pay our line rental to sky rather than BT, so presumably although it will be a BT engineer that does it we will have to arrange it through sky? |

Openreach are responsible for the line upto and including the master socket...what you require would be not be done for free and getting it done may prove a problem....
People in your positon have reported the line faulty to get the work done but I wouldnt recommend that as you may get two charges raised, one for the visit on a non fault and one , a time related charge, for the work required, this could be very expensive (circa £200) What you require is available as an appointed chargable task , but Sky may not be aware of it so may not raise the neccesary order to get the work done, I would speak to Sky and ask if they can arrange a visit on a time related basis, openreach would bill your service provider for the time spent and your service provider would bill you ( same process if you reported a fault and there wasnt a fault on the openreach kit) |

Spoke to Sky, they said the only way they could deal with it would be to report it as a fault to get call out - £99 charge + £64/hr. They also said that they would normally recommend using a third party engineer rather than through BT.
I wasn't aware that others were allowed to alter the BT part of the line before the first socket, but will find out! |

technically by doing so you will be breaking the T&C's as the wiring is our responsibility. though the obvious one is what we don't know won't hurt us. obviously if they screw up and we have to put it right then make sure he is prepared to accept the charges.
