Also, it would have helped if you started with your thoughts first, just saying "Discuss" does not start a conversation, it's more like an essay title and again, it's the weekend. Finally, this is in the wrong forum. There is a Portable Devices one where you'd have more chance of getting a conversation. |

It's Sunday morning, the majority of posters are either in bed or hungover, so probably not really set for a topic such as that, and even if they wish to reply, give them more than 27 minutes to do so.

I hate Ipods. I use Creative and I adore it. It does what I want to do, so easy to use and put music on.

I got through 9 creatives in 3 years. They kept flipping out and they stopped working so I decided to give in and buy an ipod. So far no problems.

Good marketing.
Good product. Also they've managed to get 'iPod' as a synonymous name with mp3 player just as google is for searching and hoover is for vacuuming. You can't buy advertising like that. No-one else seems to have grasped their knack for making it a 'cool' item to have. |

http://www.hometechanswers.com/mp3/m...eative-zen.jpgI just don't like iPods, I think it's the fact they're just everywhere and everyone assumes you own an iPod. When I say I own an mp3 player they're always a bit confused until I show them. And as the poster above said, it's like google or biro or sellotape or hoover: it's a household name now. |

Ease of use, sound quality, Software.
Well the Nano and the Shuffle models really don't impress me as there are far better players out there for cheaper. However, when it comes to the Touch, which I have, it is a different story! MY GOD - That just cannot be beaten at all for a multimedia device - FACT. http://www.apple.com/uk/ipodtouch/ |

In branding terms it's a true successor to the walkman. When the brand name becomes almost synonymous with the product to the point where it's often used instead of a generic name, you're dealing with very powerful forces.
I've got a cheap Samsung DMP which does all I need and I've never used an i-pod extensively so I don't know if they merit this pre-eminent position...but I suspect this marketing triumph is an important factor. |

I think you were just unlucky. I have never had a problem.
iPod has as someone already said, become the MP3 Player. ask anyone what an iPod is and they'll say an MP3 Player, ask someone what a Zune is and I think a lot of people will stare at you blankly. iTunes plays a major part, so easy to buy music and add it to your ipod in about 3 clicks. Made by Apple which is a pretty cool company. Very easy to use and everything about them is user friendly. |

Ease of use of the software for me - I was using iTunes to manage my music on my PC for months before I even bought an iPod.

I've never owned an I-Pod, my mps players have either been Creative or I-River (my latest one that I am using is a Creative Zen X-16).
I think the main thing that sets the I-Pod apart and why people seem to love them to some degree is the marketing and they are seen as a bit of a more upmarket product due to how they are marketed. I agree with pumazooma - the term "I-pod" has become far more well known than "mp3 player" or "Creative Zen" etc - and so its seen as a cool gadget to have. |

My 160Gig Classic is loaded with my entire music collection, along with various audiobooks, videos and photos. An extra plug in thingy turns it into an FM / DAB radio.
It does its job flawlessly, has fantastic battery life, and the iTunes software is excellent . . . I wouldn't want to swap it for any other MP3 player, apart from a Touch with a similar capacity, which isn't yet available . . . . My wife owns a Nano, and she loves the little thing . . |

I hate when someone starts a topic with 'discuss' , - appearing to want to start a thread with no brains to 'discuss' or put any input into it themselves |

They are a great product, simple really. Used to own a Creative but it broke so I got an Ipod and am extremely impressed with it. Plus I love Itunes.

Bought my wife an I pod Nano for Christmas a couple of years ago She never uses it she cant understand how to work it............. i know !!!!! Women ..
I love my creative Zen m 30 gb you can drag and drop music from your hard drive all day. There has been some changes a foot though For some reason in the Vista updates for this player They taken away the choice of whether you want your music files to be in Mp3 format leaving you with just WMA only. I had some issues with the Gracenotes as well because the CD info was all in Chinese actual on the Ripper software but translated back to English once loaded into the player. Other than that its great. I must admit i have 6,400 tracks on mine and someday's i do not want to hear any of them even in shuffle mode. Sad or what.. |

I used to have a creative 60GB which I thought would do for for all my music, and I swore I'd never touch an iPod. But it started getting full then in 2007 Apple released the new 160GB Classic. I thought that will do nicely it has allowed me to expand my music collection and carry it with me everywhere. I still have fond memories of my Creative, and to be honest in sound quality there isn't much to choose a lot of it comes down to the quality of the headphones and bit rate you use. Not helped by the fact Apple did until recently have everything is cruddy 128kbps. I use nothing less than 192, I know a lot go for 320 but do that even with a 160GB and it will fill pretty quick.
6,400 is that all???? I have 15,907!!! |

What Apple have successfully managed to do is give their products a "must have" status, so there is an instant demand for their products before they even come on to the market. In saying that, though, I would be tempted to buy an iPod just to have one of these.. Roth MC4
