I have set a series link for the new series of Grand Designs on CH4. Both recording so far have cut short and we miss the last minute or so which is very annoying.

Is this a CH4 problem or just this program?

It doesn't seem to happen with any other schedules we have set.

This has pretty much always happened for us on CH4. On Sky+
For the past 3 years at least.
Always half way through showing the finished house.

I really should sort the padding out.... but it's the only program that it seems to do it on.

I have the same problem.

There has always been something unusual about Grand Designs in that whenever it is shown (and this includes repeats) it always runs right up to (and often just past) the hour. For some reason they actually seem to make the programme slightly longer than most. One repeat I watched a couple of weeks back only had two sets of ads in it and still overran.

I found it cut off not when they were showing the finished house but during the final minute or so when KM waxes lyrical and I can survive without that.

I agree - I find that GD has always started on time, or even a minute early, and then finishes about 2-3 minutes late.
I guess they don't allow for the sponsorship "bumbers" when they edit it to length
so I manually pad the start and end of my GD recording. (set up to record as normal, then go to schedule and hit Yellow to edit times - have to do this every week though)

Set the programme repeat to weekly, you then only have to edit if it changes it's time slot.

Rather than using series link, why not just manually edit it to be a Weekly recording with suitable padding? It's always on at the same time every week, so shouldn't be a problem.

I concur with other posters' comments; GD has always overrun its 10pm finish time, and C4 never seem to signal the end properly so you can't rely on the Freesat+ functionality.

its just not Grand designs

location location and Sarah Beeneys do the house up programme is the same

its as if it starts early and the aadverts are more frequent for re-runs on sat channels

does the freesat box have an option like sky + to add 2 minutes to and before programmes??

Yes but it effectively turns off series record, even for the more reliable channels. Setting padding manually for each programme and using the repeat options retains series recording for non edited reservations

Cheers for the workaround.

So basically it's CH4 fault, they need to get their act together.

I had to manually record Grand Designs tonight as it wasn't in the schedule despite being on series link with next Wednesday's in the schedule.

It is this continuous crap broadcasting service that makes me want iPlayer fiunctionality to catch up on all the stuff that should have been recorded but wasn't. I know iPlayer wont help for a Channel4 prog but i've enjoyed my rant.

Anyone else have GD disappear off their schedule f
for tonight?
