Tonight I finally got so pissed off I complained to OfCom about the DFS ad breaks that have run for the past 5 weeks on DOI. The skaters falling flat on the collective arses are all female. Don't assume I'm some militant feminist but I just got sick to the back teeth with the assumption that male skaters don't fall. It's trivial to some and many will think mountains out of molehills but how hard would it have been to choose clips including both men and women ?????

I think there are far more important things to worry about tbh.

I find those ads intensely irritating. I don't like seeing people falling, and they just make an association in my mind with irritation, annoyance and something rather unpleasant with DFS.

I wouldn't shop there now, even if I had some money .

I think it's the Benetton effect, yes, they get their name out, but manage to associate it with something horrible, I wouldn't shop there either.

While I can see your point, having watched the last Winter Olympics, I'm vaguely in sympathy with the ad producers. The men's competition was a lot less fall-ridden than the women's, where the gold medallist in the singles basically won because she was the only one that didn't fall over *

Benneton ran a string of adverts which were very controversial and therefore got people talking. They including photographs (by Oliviero Toscani) of a dying AIDS patient.

I don't like watching skaters fall so I avoid watching that. ( I don't like the loud colours of the furniture and it has also put me off buying from DFS.)

With having to keep muting the shouting audience as well, feel like a punchy ex boxer while the show is on, always twitching.

I totally agree Bristolbabe and have been thinking of complaining too. I did nothing the first week because I assumed (wrongly) that the second week would show all men falling on their respective arses. But it has been annoying me and has certainly put me off DFS.

Yes, it's the dying skeletal man that I will forever associate with them. It was horrible. A ghastly image of that poor man that a company sought to exploit to advertise their clothing range.

I thought that most of that campaign was merely tacky and crass, that photo crossed over into tasteless and offensive. It probably put more people off buying from them than attracted people to their shops even if it did get their name even better known.

Better known, like Lassa Fever and The Black Death.

Morning Sliver. I never really "got" the adverts either. I didn't like them and found them distasteful (to use a very BBC kind of word). I can only imagine Benetton thought that they'd get people talking (which they did) and therefore people would remember the name.

DFS ads are just bad. I don't think they're sexist, just awful in general due to the frequency they're played and their neverending sales. They're a bit of a joke now - I don't think anyone takes DFS seriously.

The ads really annoy me too showing only woman falling is only a part of it, why show anyone falling it? is ridiculous almost as if saying oooh look these celebrities can stand up unlike these skaters

Just because I'm a bit of a sad stickler for details in the Free skates at the last Olympics the mens programme had way more falls - 18 falls between 24 skaters, than the womans competition 8 falls between the 24 skaters.

I truly hope so ....

Taking DOI so seriously is bad enough ... but now complaining about the adverts they show while it's on ...

Think I'll go back to worrying about real earth-shattering issues ....

Ravioli or Spaghetti Hoops for tea?

I find spaghetti hoops rather offensive ... with their round circular orangeness ...

Depends on how big an appetite you have and when you last ate I would have said, but then I am opinionated

This is a dancing on ice thread so taking the piss out of people who enjoy the show says a lot more about you than them.

When I started the thread it was because I was irritated by yet another advertiser portraying women as a joke. Yes it's daft advert that nobody really wants to see but the point is that someone got paid a lot of money to make it but couldn't be bothered to be impartial. I'm not a militant feminist as I said earlier in the thread. I'm just a woman who's tired of the ignorance.

Instead of hijacking threads that don't interest you ? That works for me
