No-one's taking the pee out of anyone who's enjoying the show.

And you say it's a Dancing On Ice thread but it's actually a thread from what I can tell, about an advert. And it is just an advert .... a bit of harmless fun ... lighten up

No, it's not an advert that's just "a bit of harmless fun". It's irritating and annoying and sexist - because there are no men falling over in them at all.

Not to mention the unpleasantness of watching someone falling every few minutes, which I do NOT like, I don't like watching someone getting hurt (or appearing to get hurt) and I would suggest that there is something rather wrong with someone who considers that "fun".

I wonder if DFS realise that they're associating themselves with accidents, pain, and exploitation of women?

Considering 99% of adverts portray men as the idiots, I'm not going to get offended just because one advert has women being the clowns instead. Advertising has been sexist for years, so I don't know why this one particular ad has disturbed you so much. But I don't think this advert is sexist at all and it will always amaze me where people manage to find offense. You say you aren't a milliant feminist, OP, but whether that's true or not your posts certainly aren't portraying you in the most rational of lights.

I would just like to say I have hated every DFS ad I've ever seen and would NEVER buy anything from them. I couldn't careless what the ad shows - I just hate them all and the mute button on my remote is well used!

Are you one of the Tena gang?

I agree this is madness.

I must say that the 'sexist' side of these ads never occurred to me but I always mute them and look away from the screen simply because I hate seeing people falling over. Also can't stand the way the woman says CUMFtubble - and I'm a Northerner!

I hadn't thought to be offended by the ads... maybe now I think about it... still no!

I think there is added humour because of the flouncy dresses, which (I would hope) you wouldn't find on the men

Absolutely Hilarious!!!!!

Complaining about adverts making women look like a joke seems to have made the women making the complaints look like a joke too ....

If your ONLY argument was a sexist one, then maybe you would have a small point - hardly earth-shattering news that adverts are sexist (and adverts directed at women can be equally sexist towards men, as can some threads on thse boards).

If your ONLY argument was that the adverts are cruel as they show fake injuries etc, then again, you would have a small point .. but combining the two arguments makes it seem that you'd think the adverts were OK if they showed both men and women falling over and hurting themselves.

Adverts can be sexist ... people can be sexist ... is it right? No ... but in the context of everything else that is shown on TV these days, I'm sure if you tried hard enough you'd be able to find something a lot more serious to complain to Ofcom about.

I don't remember so many in the men's programme, but that could be cos I was trying to build a CD cabinet while watching and only really stopped to gawp over Plushenko

Still, I'd have to agree that the ads are pretty silly in concept - although the one of the woman doing the marching step and then missing her footing does get me every time, in a 'you're not even doing a big jump!' way

MY ONLY argument WAS that the ads are sexist as I have no doubt whatsoever they would not be premitted to use falls that caused serious injury in what is a joke advert. I agree that there are many bad adverts portraying men in a way that could be seen as offensive and I know that a single father friend of mine especially hates the way the current Sainsburys campaign has a very dumb father in them.

I am a firm believer that if something bothers you then do something about it rather than moan and whine. This is what I did about something that irritated me. It may not be serious in the grand scheme of things but I felt it worthy of a discussion which is why I started this thread. If you have no problems with the DFS ads well done to you but please don't be rude and derrogatory to those that do find them annoying. It's unnecssary and I'm sure you have far more serious topics to be looking at.

Your posts on this topic have come across (to me) as being as close to moaning as you can get ... fair enough, if something bothers you, then raise a complaint to the necessary authority .. end of story surely? By then posting that is what you have done on a public forum is, in my mind, moaning and whining about it.

I was neither rude nor derogatory about anybody .. just the topic in question. Did you just want people who agreed with this to reply? Did you not think that some people may find it a bit petty?

Public Forums are the place for debate .. and if something posted on these forums annoys me, amuses me, upsets me, grabs my interest, I will respond.

The opening post was petty and pointless - that does not mean that the person who made it is.
