Evening!

My iPhone's home button seems to have steadily become less responsive today and has now completely stopped working... I've restarted the phone multiple times, but it seems like it's a hardware rather than a software problem.

Has anyone had any experience of something similar? It could be that a bit of moisture has got in there, or it could have just been faulty to start with.

Can I expect a replacement if I go to an Apple store?

A replacement from Apple? Good luck with that. Apple will only replace your items if there's no hope fixing it.

Go online or pop into your nearest Apple store, make an appointment with the Genius Bar, the iphone one, they will check it over for you, if it can be fix right at the spot the will do it, if not they will take it and fix it within 7 working days. This is the policy for computers and ipods anyway.

Depends what it is. They replaced my faulty, out of warranty Apple Extreme, with a brand new one on the spot.

If they can not fix it at the store, and its still within warranty, they will replace it straight away. Even for minor problems they will supply a replacement.

That's good news. As this would at least require disassembling the phone, I don't really want to be without it for 7 days!

I would go into an Apple store not an O2 store. If it is within warranty Apple will replace it. My mute switch came off, it would have been a simple fix but they just gave me a new one. I am guessing they had had it for a while though because it had 1.1.4 firmware, so I had to update when I got home but apart from that it was fine. If you use exchange or MobileMe you can just put in your login details and it will push all your contacts, calendars and mail to you straight away over 3G, otherwise you have to wait until you get home.

Or bring your laptop with you like I've done and sit in Starbuck's and click the glorious button that ports my last back-up onto my new iPhone!

Chap was happy that I hadn't done anything too major to it to cause the damage, did a restore on the old one on the off-chance that it's a software problem and promptly gave me a new one.

I wouldn't go walk into an O2 store unless someone paid me! The chap was telling me about the O2 store sending customers over the Apple stores for DOA products... ludicrious.
