Ipod won't charge properly

Hi

I'm not a very technical person and need some help with my Ipod. I've had it about 2 years and it's always worked fine. But at the weekend, I plugged the Ipod into the computer to charge. It won't switch on and just has a message on the screen saying 'Please Wait, Very Low Battery'. It also won't appear on my Itunes. I left it like this for an hour and it still wouldn't work.

I've also got some Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers that I sometimes use to charge it up and if I put the Ipod in these, after about 5 mins, the Ipod screen says that it is fully charged?? The ipod will play while plugged into the speakers but as soon as you take it off the speakers and try to use it independantly, it says that there is no battery power!

It's driving me mad and I'm not sure if there is anything that I can do.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks x
