Richard Whiteley was lucky to get the job IMO. He always looked a bit awkward in the job and to be honest was a bit dull. I know alot of people liked him, however if he hadnt got that "job for life" he would be in the back office somewhere or on local BBC radio at best

Not quite. Richard was already well established on Yorkshire Television. In fact, the original name of the show was 'Calender Countdown'.

Point taken, but he would have stayed on regional television if it wasn't for countdown.

I don't know whether it's the effects of frostbite of the years, but the muscles that make you smile don't appear to work on Ran. I take it he is probably one of Nick's friends, which is the only reason why he is on. It's certainly not for his witty repartee!

She's Canadian.
Ran is okay. He's not as good as Phil Hammond or Tim Vine but he's much better than the old TV journalists they often have on there like Alastair Stewart and Jenny Bond.

Yes, not sure if it was because he followed on from the more charasmatic and witty Alistair McGowan who was fun last week (especially loved his Jeff Stelling poem), but I found Sir Ranulph painfully boring. (oops, I think I just split my infinitive there, not good on a Countdown forum!)
