How long has this been broadcast in HD?

I haven't watched for a year or so but might have got back to it sooner if I'd known!

Been upscaled SD for a couple of years, but think it was only this year it started showing in true HD quality. You can really tell the difference as well. Still don't like the new score display, but as I said it takes me time to adjust to change. Knowing my luck, I'll just adjust to it and they will change it again!

Final of the Champions tournament. This could be an epic game.

Rachel is disappointingly dressed. She looks good, but I was hoping something like the infamous 'sprayed-on' gold dress. That's how she should dress for a final.

One of the contestants has just got four 9 letter words in a row. This is going to be a record all time score I think.

Equalled the highest Countdown score of all time. 146.

Well done Connor. Champion of Champions.

The inventor of Countdown is presenting the trophy!

Tied Julian Fell's record score, wow. Conor is phenomenal.

Lovely group photo at the end of the credits.

Conor was amazing. Very worth champion of champion of Champions. (or whatever he now is! ). Appeared to have a very admirable and humble attitude about it all too.
Poor Jack must be still kicking himself over narrowly failing to get the highest score ever the other week. That would have a nice conclusion to this. One of them breaking the all time points record and then the other one beating him to win overall.

I watched it after seeing your post; it was only three in a row. (Spent ages on pause trying to figure out what that fourth one might be!)

That was great! The show had a lovely feel today and a real sense of occasion about it ....... and we even got a few words we'd heard of! Rachel was all relaxed and getting on down with the kids! The lads were friendly and all credit to Conor (who still looked 14) with his 146. It's going to feel weird going back to small letter words again, and Susie having to tell them they're imagining letters that aren't there!

A nice couple of normal if brainy lads, no aliens or fruitloops, and witty, "what's a name for three 9s in a row? an ambulance"

Fantastic programme today but felt Rachel was too commenty when Conor was winning. Keep the bias out of it Rachel.

That cracked me up.

If you're referring to her comment when she was putting up the last numbers game then she wasn't biased at all. Connor couldn't be beaten because he already had 126 points and Jack had only 101. However if (as Rachel said) Connor got both the numbers game and the conundrum then he would have equalled the highest-ever score.

Well, we didn't have to wait long for another clever clogs to come along or should that be a Smart Andy? What a tiresome show-off.

And he doesn't improve with watching. Today in Round 9 when it was his turn to declare first with his score at a massive 84 to his opponent's meagre 7 he felt the need to remark that it was a shame he had to go first because he would have to decide between declaring a safe 7 or a slightly dodgy 8. So his opponent might have beaten him in one round, so what, when he was that far ahead anyway?

I was very pleased that at least the opponent beat him to the final conundrum but the moment was spoiled by Nick gushing all over him at how wonderful he was and urging both Suzy and Rachel to join in. His opinion of himself is quite high enough already, Nick, he doesn't need your encouragement.

How very British, the smart guy gets lambasted for playing the game to the best of his abilities while the thicko git well out of his depth gets the sympathy.

I had to turn off today...the guy should get over himself.

ETA: well really I think people who behave in that arrogant manner are just hiding from their insecurities. Still irritating.

has anyone else notice that Susie does the same word history more than once?

She's a sweet little minx though.

I agree. I rarely take against a contestant but this guy is so far up himself that he annoys me intensely. And with Nick being so fawning towards him, it is likely to get worse, if anything.

I like Culshaw, he enters into the game and is keen to contribute unlike some guests who sit there bored and let Suzi do it all.

But for all that he screwed up yesterday missing two easy 7s, CUSTARD in round 6 and REGULAR in round 7, he messed up a numbers game having declared the target and failed on the conundrum.

I'd like to just lie there and let Susie do it all
