Ah, you guys. Disappointing to see this. Here goes from me.

If you are talking about 236, your point is kinda hindered by the fact I was prepared to do it either way - I offered Rachel the straightforward way or the flamboyant way because I'd been speaking to her in advance of the game about some of the tricks that are possible with 4 large numbers. She duly chose the more interesting way. If you were an actual fan of the show, I think you would be more likely to find it interesting too.

So his opponent might have beaten him in one round, so what, when he was that far ahead anyway? .”
Come on man, you're better than that. You understand how the game works. You have to get every point possible to guarantee yourself as high a seed as possible to give yourself a better draw in the final stages. If you'd rather I just didn't say anything of a tactical nature then that would be fair enough, but I think it makes it more interesting to know what the contestants are thinking. Again, feel free to disagree.

I actually agree with you here, so fair play. I think Nick was too keen to praise me and at times it left me somehow embarrassed or not knowing what to say next.

This. Cheers. But I'm not really that "smart" so to speak, I just practised a lot before coming on. However, unfair on my opponent who apparently had a very strong performance in his audition but unfortunately never lived up to it on the day.

ETA: well really I think people who behave in that arrogant manner are just hiding from their insecurities. Still irritating.”

Would be interesting to hear why you thought that. I wouldn't say I was either insecure or arrogant. Although, that said, I wasn't really pleased with my demeanour in the first few games when I watched the show back, but more because I thought I looked more boring and competitive rather than arrogant, but you are entitled to your own interpretation and it's a shame you don't know me.

I like your opinion here. He is an absolute legend and a pleasure to have met. Great guy and great talent. After having my application for the show approved I was hoping to land him (or perhaps Tim Vine, Alistair McGowan etc) as my dictionary corner guest - a point I made to him in person (I'm not sure he believed me though, haha).

Yep, my play will never be as consistent as anyone like Conor, Jack, etc, but I gave it a bloody good go. Kudos if you spotted them, as they were beyond me there.

Yeah, I heard it was Channel 4 who decided this rather than the Countdown team. Something about clashing ad breaks with other channels. I kinda prefer the new format, it flows slightly better and as someone else mentioned well, it is more balanced in terms of numbers picks, something that was certainly a little skewed beforehand.

If I said that it was because I thoroughly expected a nine and was frustrated at myself for potentially losing 18 points to my opponent rather than being arrogant. You are kind of interpreting things how you want to, I see. Kind of says more about you than about me.

I honestly don't think he actually had it. I certainly couldn't make heads or tails of what was written. But I just gave it to him anyway in the end due to how long it was taking. Sorry for like, trying to play the game by the rules, and all that.

How smug and self-congratulatory? I responded to audience claps and the aforementioned praise from Nick in what I, and everyone I know, thought was a completely modest and acceptable fashion. Ask yourself if you would have had the same opinion if the scores were level or I was losing. But I agree with the last point, Conor and Jack are much better than me and if I could achieve anything like what they did I'd be delighted.

Yeah, Jonathan is a awesome - he is very well liked and respected among Countdown regulars & other top players. Genuinely glad to see he has a fan or two here. Looking at your post history it seems you don't throw around compliments very often so that probably means quite a lot.
To those of you who are genuine fans of the show, I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Without giving too much away there's a guy on a few days into April who is definitely worth keeping tabs on. For those of you who just enjoy vitriolically criticising stuff, then you guys have fun too
