Yeah, if this current winner goes up against one of those savant octochamps from a month or two back he's going to get annihilated in the finals.

Although he's pretty good with the numbers so he should still be able to get a halfway-respectable score when the time comes.

I think Rachel maybe a bit heavy handed with the old makeup, I was just thinking that today....bit too much mascara, bright red lipstick...She has a good taste in clothes, and black, white and greys really suit her, I think....nice dress today.....she seems to have quite grey eyes, which is really striking...I think grey lipstick would look good on her.

Pretty contestant today too.
I imagine that her make up is put on for her by the studio staff. Personally, I find lipstick and heavy make-up off-putting (and ageing). Rachel is a natural beauty with a lovely complexion and looks her best with little or no make-up.

She had a nice short skirt on today (Friday).

The old guy in Dictionary corner was telling a tale, (and I missed the start of it) about an actor named Patrick who sent him some pictures of himself in the nude, and they were left by mistake in the Garrick Club.

Anyone know which "Patrick " this was?

They should get the guy who was their warm-up man for 13 years in Dictionary Corner - He'd be amazing... Greg Scott, I think he's called...

Think he was last seen on the late night quiz TV scene, often complains that he can't get TV work these days though.

He still does warm up on occasion, he did so when I was a contestant, covering for the main guy. He's also appeared as a contestant. And for those complaining about "savant" octochamps, as has been said before, hey practise on a website called Apterous, as does the current champion.

Has the Countdown hairdresser gone on strike? Today Rachel, Susie & Michelle looked like they'd been dragged through a hedge backwards.

That went over your head didn't you I think GreggybabeUK it trying to tell you he is Greg Scott

I was watching old Countdown today recorded from Challenge and Richard told a story of how in the first week of Countdown they banned they word "wally" and ended up ridiculed in the newspapers.

In the very next round on the show I was watching they said the contestant couldn't have "boughed" and her previous word from the last round "pacier" wasn't allowed

Richard and Martin Jarvis making suggestive comments about nurses too wouldn't be allowed today

There's a contestant today who's had a complete brainfreeze.

He's scored 0 so far and on the second numbers round we had 100 50 7 8 10 and 4 with a target of 600. When asked what he'd got, he had nothing!

He failed to get the first set of numbers as well. When he saw how easy it was he put his hand up to his head.
Embarrassing.

Maybe the pressure of being in front of the camera has got to them? I wonder what the record low score for the current and old format is

Bob has recovered a bit but still comfortably makes the list of low scores under 30 with a total of 26 versus 110

I think the occasion got to him today. To not get that 600 numbers game was unbelievable though. But, I can't imagine how much more difficult it really must be to be there in the studio playing the game as opposed to being sat on the sofa at home.

Today's brainfreeze contestant, Bob still showed a decent sense of humour. When trying to get 946 on the last numbers game, he reached 950 and said, "and then take away the 4", to which Rachel replied with, "You've already used the 4 Bob"

Bob - "Of course I have - I'll get my coat".

The current champion is good but some of the opposition is below par and they must have racked up some of the lowest scores ever recently.

I'm finding the current champ rather irritating and smug to be honest. Although he's not so hot on the conundrums.

That was really weird today, both contestants failed to get an easy numbers game: (75 x 4) - (6 x 5) = 270 & I also failed to see/get it.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this but when they go to Rachel for the letters she often seems to be suppressing a laugh about something and it seems to be getting worse. As a viewer it kind of makes me feel like I've missed something.
