According to C4Countdown on Twitter, they're recording Jeff's last episode today, and it will be broadcast on Friday 16th December. Also Rachel will be appearing on Celebrity Mastermind soon.

Vitriolic - Tough one. It's fascinating what nerves do to you, even on a game as straightforward as Countdown. The challenger was behind for most of the show, even fails to spot a word at all in one particular round, then out of nowhere gets a nine letter word and one of the trickiest conundrums in a long time and wins the whole thing! Well done!

I thought that was one of the easiest conundrums they've had in a while, it certainly took me less than a 1/10 of a second. I almost always get he conundrum before the contestants and usually within a couple of seconds but that was extra easy. The one last Friday was very difficult (loudmouth) and the contestant beat me to it.

I think it's only easy if you use the word. To my knowledge I have never used the word vitriolic before. That said, I did get loudmouth last week!

I don't think it's a matter of using the word but the patterns that form from the selection of letters, if "vitriolic" the way they arranged the letter I maybe would have read that in a novel and not even noticed the wrong spelling.

"Loudmouth" by contrast was close to several other words and nothing jumped out at all so it was a case of trying to rearrange the letters "manually" which is why I didn't beat the contestant to it - well done on that one.

I think there's a lot of self training in doing the conundrum and Countdown in general. When I first started watching it took me several weeks to get my first conundrum but once I got the first it became much easier. "Loudmouth" was the first time is several weeks that I haven't got it, most would have been within a couple of seconds at most.

Lovely arse hugging number today. Her tits have noticeably shrunk since yesterday though!

Another person who would be great as host is Sarah Foulkes. She is the person who auditions hopeful contestants and she has a very relaxed yet quirky entertaining personality and would make a terrific host!

Nick Hewer off The Apprentice to be the new host of Countdown.

What a strange choice - I can't imagine anyone more unsuited to the job.

A surprising choice (I don't think the bookies included him in their lists of potential hosts) but it will be interesting to see how he settles into the programme.
We're less than a year away from the 30th anniversary of the programme and the launch of Channel 4.

I disagree - I think he is dry, clever and witty and will bring a new dimension to the show. Maybe he will just have to exude a little more "warmth"?

I don't know anything about this guy as I've never seen The Apprentice but I find it sad as it's final confirmation that Jeff is leaving.

A strange choice for the new host, but it could be interesting.

Do you think he'll pull that disapproving Apprentice face if a contestant gets their spelling wrong?

He is very sharp, very witty and thank god he's not a sport's presenter! Hopefully he'll bring a new lease of life to the show and bring the millions of Apprentice fans into the Countdown fold! Also, very glad that Susie and Rachel are both staying on.

Initial reaction "Good god, no!"

But I'll wait and see what he is like in January.
