He is its getting better and quicker than i expected. Once he gets to know everyone well he will be very good.

I cannot stand Jack. Poor Nick has been saddled with five landslide victories by a not particularly likeable guy so far, thank God he's going next week.

I agree. I can't honestly say I've seen any improvement from Nick across the week at all. I like him and want him to do well for the show's sake but I'm not really seeing it yet.

That's right, having seen them record 5 in a week when my brother was on last year. I think it's partly also for the ease of the dictionary corner guest, as they can do the full week in that 1 day. Don't think they film 5 days a week (they may do, not sure), but they do generally do 5 episodes in a day, so in that respect, technically it is still his first day. I'm not totally convinced by Nick yet, but I'm willing to give him a chance, but he doesn't have much of a rapport as such with the contestants, you don't feel you could have a laugh with him (whereas my brother was on when Jeff Stelling was host, and with Stelling and my brother both being football fans, there was a good amount of banter between the 2 of them, both on and off camera).

He obviously must have done otherwise they would have pulled him up on it and anyway I'm sure he wouldn't imagine 2 extra letters and get the count wrong but I've listened to it about 20 times on both my TV and PC and it still sounds like invaders.

Ha, yeah I chuckle at that too. Though today I think he said once "eyes down" which made me think of a bingo hall.

I read on here in an interview with Nick that it's 5 shows in one day, 3 days a week. So they film 3 weeks worth of viewing in 3 days.

I'm getting used to him now, he is getting better at it. Though he still has a feel of a school headmaster about him and it's a bit more "Demon headmaster" than "Professor Dumbledore".

Nick sailed closed to the wind when ribbing Jack. Very dodgy with autism, which I suspect is somewhere in the make-up.

So when, on Tuesday, he spoke of receive loads-n-loads of "you're doing well" tweats and emails and letters, he must have been lying to us, to everyone, to the whole of England. For shame I say, for shame on him.

Just heard him interviewed live on LBC this morning and the feedback that's reached him so far is very good, he said. He also said he is now getting a lot quicker.

I for one, hope he continues to be a perfect gentlemen and doesn't make cheap jibes at Rachel like Jeff used to. I found that uncomfortable viewing.

I am liking Nick Hewer on Countdown. He's completely different to the others. It'll be hard to see him on the Apprentice without thinking 'where's the clock'. He has good chemistry with Rachel and Susie which is good. I like that he does give his opinion on some of the words which if I remember Jeff never did it, shows that he is genuinley (sorry for spelling) interested in what Susie is saying or the audacity of the teatime teazer. He has had it hard for the first week but hopefully he'll develop. I'm just old enough to remeber when Richard Whiteley presented it. I didn't really get it with the two Des' and I did like it when Jeff started but its now got a new lease of life with Nick. He's not a natural presenter and you can see that but he'll get better I think.
I loved the Mash up they did with 8 out of 10 Cats I laughed my head off. They should do it more often and when Nick steps down what about Jimmy Carr as presenter?

Poor Jack. He seems like a nervous youngster to me. He's very clever and I hope he gets his octo.

I'm not usually a contrary type, but I disagree with all those who find Nick Hewer humourless. He makes me smile. He is like an old fashioned headmaster with a dry sense of humour. I think he's going to be a great host.

Did someone mention Jimmy Carr for host ? Goodness me, he is just the type of host that Countdown does not need. Deal or No Deal or similar rubbish perhaps but not Countdown.

I agree with you and I really like Nick and he reminds me of a favourite uncle or a nice headmaster. In a week or two (bearing in mind that this first week's shows were all filmed the same day) I'm sure he will be much better and feel more comfortable in his new surroundings. Phew... no football talk like we constantly had before with Jeff, whom I rather liked, but I do like Nick too and wish him a long and happy stay.

I'm not saying how old I am but I was in my early teens when he stopped. I start my 3rd decade in May but Countdown starts its 4th decade this year. That gives my rough age. He used to present Calendar the Yorkshire local news when he presented it Calendar was a decent local news programme. Thats where the nickname Twice Nightly Whiteley came from.

I knew about his nickname before, there was another one as well but can't remember it right lol.

God how I wish it be that young again. I tell you I have been watching since the very start of countdown. I not a complete countdowner but I tune in most of the time.

I must say that I agree with the praise for nick. He's like my old science teacher(Sadly no longer with us) nice, Kind and a good old British dry sense of humour.

I didn't like Des 1 or 2, I got used to Jeff's sports talk and of course dear old Richard. The reason Richard was good is because he was a bumbling fool. And he actually liked the game and got into it.

I don't understand comments like this. If you don't like the show anyway, then what interest do you have in who presents it? Just don't watch it. Simples!
