Yes - a taste that's gonna take a long, long, time to get into. Even the SUN newspaper runs a line today saying how dreadful he is.

Have to say that without doubt he is the worst compere the show has ever had.

Stephen Lee's cue action can't be that good the number of pots he misses!

Whilst I think that Nick will grow into the role as the weeks go on, I still believe that THIS was the way forward

Of course the typical Sun reader is exactly who a show like Countdown has always been aimed at.

Nick was a lot better as early as the end of his first week than he was in the first couple of days.

As for the worst presenter (whilst I think Richard Whiteley was hugely overrated) that accolade has to go to the cheesefest that was Des O'Connor. I stopped watching the show altogether after a couple of months of the usual O'Connor delight of finding himself far more funny than anyone else does.

Oh dear, someone said the 6-letter 'W' word and it was bleeped out. Other 6's were available!

Nick seemed rather unimpressed with that

Would they bleep 'bastard' out even though it has the "illegitimate child" meaning?

But that was the word that was staring one in the face. So to speak.

I Like Nick as host, I think he has an interest in the contestants and seems a decent guy, I think he is great unlike others

I nearly spat out my tea when that happened - I never watch Countdown so I might tune in more regularly now !

That bloke's just got a dirty mind, I found 'reawaken' far more easy to get than the one he came out with!

Subscribing to the C4Countdown Twitter feed you find out who dictionary corner guests are in advance. Next week is Dr Phil Hammond, then it is either Gloria Hunniford or Kate Humble. Switch them whichever way you like.

Why did they beep that word out. Its been used before on the show, in fact there was a pair of them at one point.

I can't quite get my head round this comment! Is there some connection to Rachel Riley?

I sometimes wonder if the role of the host on Countdown is perhaps a little overplayed. So much of each episode is spent on the ticking clock, with many viewers seeing it as a truly interactive show - working out the words and numbers and seeing what the contestants can do. With the added bonus of Rachel Riley for those who just want to see a beautiful woman in tight clothes.

The actual host of the show doesn't really do much or have a great impact. To be honest, I can't say I ever really liked Jeff Stelling that much as a host, but it never mattered. Sure, Nick's a bit odd as a host but it's still exactly the same show - the 'meat' of what makes Countdown remains the same.

It was a cringeworthy moment, for sure.

I like Nick as the host, the creepier the better.
He's already come out with some great lines, I hope he stays years.

They wouldn't bleep it out, *because* it is a perfectly proper word for an illegitimate child. Its use as a term of personal abuse grew out of its proper meaning, as with a word like "bitch".

"W**k*r", on the other hand, doesn't have any other meaning. It's just a profanity, so it gets bleeped.

So would felching be allowed then ? (as a word, not an activity, of course)
