IMO, I would rather have Jeff than Nick. As Nick gets on my nerves and I find him patronising especially to Susie's orgin of words. My Gorgeous Mum who passed away when I was younger loved countdown and I have watched it every since, as it always reminds me how much Mum loved the show.
Hopefully with time I might get use to Nick. I would love to see the lovely Rachel (my Daughter's name btw) go on strictly coming dancing.

what get's on my nerves, is when nick said's ''take it away'' every time the contestants go to choose their letters. anyone also agree?

I wish they would take Nick away, he (or should I say the people who appointed him) have totally destroyed this show! I now refuse to watch it, after having watched it for more years than I can remember.

Me too, even the lure of the lovely Rachel is insufficient to make up for the loss of Jeff and the installation of a patently wrong presenter.

i really miss Jeff and although I'm trying to give Nick some leeway, I'm finding him very hard to get used to.

I appreciate he's still young in the job but I do wonder what they saw in him that made them hire him despite his obvious lack of presenting experience which shows throughout the show.

Even when he's trying to be jovial and relaxed, it still feels very forced and uncomfortable. I do like the fact that he is clearly a "words" man and has a wide and extensive vocabulary which is probably why he is more comfortable with Susie than with Rachel but really all they nedded was a decent presenter. The rest is a bonus.

I get the sense Rachel misses Jeff too. They had such a great rapport and the banter between her and Nick doesn't seem to flow as easily, but still early days I suppose.

I think Rachel misses Jeff and she is bound to, since they'd worked together for quite a while. I fell Jeff is like a homely dad and Nick is like a stern headmaster but I like him and fans of the game of Countdown shouldn't be put off because of Nick... record it and fast forward through Nick if you don't like him!!!

Yep, like I mentioned before, the presenter on Countdown doesn't do a lot compared to other game shows - so there's much less impact on something as structured/unique as Countdown if the presenter isn't to your taste.

I barely ever registered Jeff before tbh. Just some guy occasionally saying 'and now the numbers round', 'and now Chris choose your letters please', 'and now another numbers round', etc.

I'm not sure about compared to other game shows because the game is always the important thing though I suppose when you have something like Deal Or No Deal that doesn't really have a game the host becomes more important. It's certainly true though that you can watch and enjoy Countdown even if you don't like the host, I continued watching through the Des O'Connor years even though I really didn't like him - I don't dislike Nick, I just don't think he does a good presenting job.

I think Nick got his dates mixed up yesterday when he was talking to Rachel about when the Queen ascended the throne.

He was right about her becoming queen in 1952 but the coronation wasn't until June 1953.

I don't know what he said but she ascended to the throne 6th Feb 1952 so yesterday was the anniversary. The coronation date is not relevant when calculating her reign.

She was #95 in 2009, but yeah she should be a lot higher.

Wtf why? Jeff was a cocky little shit, his jokes were often sexist and werent even funny. Nick may be old fashioned but i think hes doing a good job, even though that people have typecasted him as Alan Sugar's right hand man.

Jeff's jokes that you considered sexist were never more than banter and were designed to allow Rachel to come back at him. He even instructed her on comebacks that would let her "win" the exchange.

I never knew who Nick was and have never seen The Apprentice so he came in with a completely blank sheet as far as I'm concerned. I don't think he's very good as a presenter but he seems a decent chap so I'm okay with that as the game is the most important thing, his presenting though is a million miles behind the level that Jeff reached.

Well if you had seen the programme, he said that the Queen ascended the throne on the death of her father on 6th Feb 1952 (which was correct) and then went on to talk about the coronation as if it took place in June the same year, which was incorrect.

I wasn't questioning the length of her reign.

I'll have to dig that year out. I missed that.

I just gotta say I totally agree about Rachel's tears when Jeff left being real. Even the 2 Des's, though nothing like as good as RW and JS, still came across as being part of a family who get on so well. Unfortunately NH does not have that quality and I don't think he ever will. I'd even rather have CV back as Host! At least she would fit in.
Susie, Rachel, the guest and the contestants all seem to look at Nick like they are wondering what he is going to say next - I can almost feel a collective sigh of relief at the end of each show.
It's a shame.
