Recently I have tried to dub VHS to the HDD ready to edit and transfer to DVD. However the option to dubb to HDD does not appear in the menu. The VHS is not copy protected.

Any ideas. Can the firmware be rebooted from Toshiba for instance?

The manual says the feature is available. It's unlikely that the recorder would ship without the feature being enabled, so I doubt that a software/firmware update is going to the be first answer.

There's reference in the manual to CPRM - a signal added to recordings to prevent copying more than once between formats. Have you tried making an off air recording on to VHS and trying to dub that to the HDD? That would tell you if there's something other than commercial macrovision blocking the recording process.

I think I also saw something about the length of the tape and the space on the HDD being important. Is there enough space on the HDD for the total tape length rather than just the recorded portion.

If all else fails do you have a second VHS machine to try recording from?

Regards

Chris

Chris, thanks for your tips. I do remember the facility being available when I first got the machine last year as I did indeed dub my old off air VHS recordings onto the HDD. These were very old tapes I had archived prior to getting Sky+.

Update

You'll never guess what resolved the problem..!

I fast forwarded the tape to the end and back and the option to dubb from VHS>HDD/DVD appeared on the menu!

Weird or what!!
