The Sony 350 seems to be winning a lot of friends (myself included). Not the most expensive, shop around and you'll get it under 200 quid easily. But a very good machine.

I certainly can't find any serious "chuck it out the window" faults. Or even any minor ones

No doubt others will be along eventually with other recomendations.

If your after a bargain, the new samsung bdp2500 is out now, I've got it, its a great machine. In argos its £342, but I got mine from robert whyte in glasgow for £179.99 plus 7 or 8 quid postage, a steal!

Go for Sony BD 350, its a great machine for the price, and if you have a home cinema set up its even better!

I tried a Sony last year and it was awful.

The PS3 is good if you cna make use of its other features.

But Panasonic do some good machines.

The BD35 is under £200 but if you want a multiregion model for both BD and DVD then the BD30 for £269 from Multiregion Magic is the best price at the moment

The S350 is a great player & nothing like the previous 300 model, the S350 is made by Sony, the 300 was made for Sony by Pioneer. The BD35 from Panasonic is a good player but despite popular belief is no better than the S350 (I owned both for a while but chose to keep the Sony)

I think there is little to choose betwen them. I don't think the Sony plays DiVX though which was a factor for me

I make a point of never trusting reviews, firstly can you be sure they are totally unbiased (although cnet seems better than most) & secondly the reviewer usually only has limited time with the equipment. The comments about the Audio on this review is IMO absolute nonesense, the Audio of the Sony is in fact nothing short of excellent bitstreamed via HDMI. And as I said earlier I have owned both, I did not dislike the Panny which I had for a month but I simply prefered the Sony.
