Well, let's try and be a little bit realistic.

How geeky to you have to be to notice that subtitles suddenly come on uninvited when you are timeshifting and can't be turned off.

Or that for no stated reason you find you can't delete a programme you've just watched.

Or that you pause a programme so that you can check something in the guide only to have it start up again as soon as you press 'guide'

And if they are less geeky how are they going to know about PVR LAN functionality anyway?

That makes no sense, how does a persons level of ability affect whether they notice they cant delete while recording or there are too many button presses to get anywhere.

The less techy people are more likely to want the bugs fixed to make the box easier to use than to get a feature they will never use.

A true tecky will sort out the envirement first before moving on. Why introduce more problems when the important bit is to sort out any bugs already in place.

The so called geeks etc that people are hinting at on here I suspect are the ones who have to have the latest hardware example mobile phones, and then wing the loudest when they find their full of bugs.

Exactly, sort out the problems for everyone and then add features that will affect the tiny minority.

Admittedly I was being a little facetious in my reply, but it gets my goat when people make assumptions about what others want based on their own needs or preferences. I wouldn't call 20% a tiny minority.

Yes but as I pointed out, people are more likely to be the techy types on this site so the real results would be far, far less than this poll.

Pretty geeky since most people, if asked if they wanted the feature would ask you what you were talking about (if you don't believe me try this yourself with non techy friends and family).

Totally agree, 23.3% on here (as of posting), but if you did a proper poll of all hdr owners, the majority of whom never read any of these forums and probably don't even know what a LAN is, then you could probably move the decimal point one place to the left !!!

Having said that, any sort of firmware upgrade would be nice but i read somewhere that it could be as late as May before we get anything.

What's all this "non-techy" nonsense?? We are living in the age of the internet, everyone and their dog is connected. New houses are built with network infrastructure pre-installed. In my opinion the type of person who wouldn't know what to do with a home network is not going to blow £300 on the latest in satellite recording, it would be akin to buying a laptop without wanting to connect it to the internet.

Non-techy people may well be connected to the internet but are the type of people who get someone to show them how to do what they need to do and stick with that.


Well you are entitled to your opinion but I fear that in reality you are merely trying to convince yourself that putting LAN functionality ahead of bug fixes is actually much more popular than the evidence suggests.

Even selecting a population that is sufficiently interested to subscribe to a forum such as this the ratio of those wanting to Fix Bugs to those who want to Get LAN working more than three to one.

And remember, when competition arrives Humax will get slaughtered in comparative reviews if they don't sort out some of the more absurd UI bugs.

edit: Having said all that I must admit that if I had to select just one bug fix/enhancement that would make the greatest improvement in box usability for me it would be being able to set the timers using LAN.

Let Humix sort out any major bugs first then look at the next stage of developement.

Remember when new users first buy the item the first thing that they do when its first connected is a update. The best thing they can have is a version which has resolved most of the highlighted issues. That way you end up with satisfied customers.

Once humix have a stable release then they can look at the next stage. Its simply those who want the unlreleased features need to be patient and allow the developement to take place.

I would agree, except having used the HDR for a couple of months I haven't found any problems whatsoever let alone any major bugs!

PS Although Humix has a certain ring to it the company is Humax

Reading between the lines of the TechniSat press release (here), Humax will be at a substantial competitive disadvantage if they don't have LAN functionality working before TechniSat bring out a PVR version of this box. Mind you, they will need to get the bugs fixed as well.

But according to some folk on here no-one wants LAN stuff so that won't matter
