From midweeks it's suggested she's gonna be no 3. This may sound good, but presuming she won fame academy she sould be number 1 really, I thought she'd run away with it! I like her and think she's a real talent, but early signs don't look promising and being beaten by westlife, that's gotta hurt! pleased for girls aloud, there new song is very cool! (They're number 2)

She wasn't going to last anyways.

You just have to look at David Sneddon and the other Fame Academy star who tried to make it big last year. (Can't remember her name).

How can you call it "a flop" at number 3? That's ridiculous. If you're in the Top 10 or even Top 20 it's a big hit and singles are after all just a teaser for an album.

There's no time for anyone to establish themselves these days - if they're not No. 1 with their first song they're called a flop. One album is not really enough either, its awful the way the music industry is run, we don't get chance for us to get to like anybody before they whip them out from under our noses.

Give us flipping chance for christ's sake, some of us take a while to mull things over. And change our minds and decide we actually quite like that. Can I buy that now please? No you can't we've signed someone else up now sorry.

The Beatles' first single didn't do very well either so give the girl chance.

Actually I think you'll find that really only applies to manufactured pop acts, and I think its fair enough. The record companies plough thousands of pounds into a manufactured act to try and make it successful, and if its not going to make them enough money, they have every right to pull the rug from under them. Acts who make their mark through talent and work cost little money to the record companies and if they fail the first time, its not going to matter much to give them another go.

Her chance at topping the charts has been squandered on a forgettable and boring song. I think she's had some very bad advice.

This must be the lowest chart position of any of the winners of F/A or Pop Stars/Rivals/Idol.

Can't see her lasting six months. That said, I like her voice a lot.

How can you call a No. 3 midweek chart position a 'flop'?
a) It's midweek, we don't know what position she'll be in come Sunday.
b) She's still sold more records than Busted did to get to No,1 last week, and, I think, more than Kylie did the week before.

Chart position isn't the be all and end all, the sales will come into it too.

I'd be interested to know how you can justify calling this a flop...

exactly - its bloody ridiculous - like when Posh's career went down the dumper because her last single only got in the Top 10.

its pretty bloody ridiculous these days, it really is.

when I were a lad, not getting into the top 40 might be considered a bit crap, but No. 3 -no, not really.

yeah the attitude these days seems to be - if you don't get to #1 you are a flop. the problem with that is... by definition only 1 single at a time can go to #1! so you could fail to do it even if you sold a ton of singles is someone else sold a few more than you. and a song a few weeks later could top the chart by selling a lot less!

Yup, exactly, I vaguely remember a few years back the difference in sales one week between number 1 and number 2 was under 50 copies.

No.3 is excellent news, it means she still has room to grow ter on in her career, not just the instant success which has become a curse.

Number 3 isn't a "flop" but it spells likely disaster.

Consider the following

Half of the winning virtual reality acts are no longer

No winning virtual reality act has ever had such a poor debut position

The chart position reflects pent up demand after all her TV exposure week after week to MILLIONS of viewers rather than a good song that would have given her a number one

You'd expect her first song to be her best

The single is an advert for the album which is also now likely to do relatively badly

The single is very weak

Considering the current state of the music industry
I can't see her lasting long at all.

P.S.
I think she's great, but the song is crap.

Never mind some talentless dirge from Lame Academy, the stunning new single from The Pet Shop Boys would be going straight in at Number 1 if the Great British public had an ounce of good taste.

She certainly has a better voice than Dido, so theres still hope

Dont forget once the manufacturers in the industry have fed and watered the act, the public votes with their feet in the charts (so I'm led to believe), its up to you to get Alex on top - as it were.
