Just tried this on mine BBC1 (don't normally use it for SD). You are right any difference if any must be very small.

Does your scart 576i look best ?

Glad you can't see any difference, thought I must be needing glasses. Yes, without a doubt, even the colours are better through scart

Interesting that someone else in this thread sees the HDMI better than scart.

Weve got one who cant see any difference an no one thinks scart is better than the setup I suggested.

Once again you have totally misrepresented what was said.

Caz42 stated that the SD picture over scart was much better than using hdmi. He also stated that the SD picture over hdmi did not look any different whatever setting the hdmi was set to. As I don't use my Foxsat for SD I repeated the experiment and confirmed that there is no discernible difference in any resolution setting over hdmi.

You have also totally ignored a posting to a test that was carried out by a member of another forum using a high quality scaler and who posted visual evidence of the fall in quality of SD pictures over hdmi compared to scart. In case you missed it here's the link.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/frees...ml#post8646506

I also note that in any of your postings you have never said that you have tried the scart connection. If you have not then that makes your observation totally biassed and theerfore adds nothing to this thread. If you have tried and prefer hdmi then that's fine but trying to assert that because you prefer it everyone else must is frankly ridicolous

Still not worth the hassle of switching inputs for no noticable effect.

There is no way one of those pics is way better than the other, thats proof you dont know what youre talking about and I wont bother replying, you have the last word, that way you think you will have won.

If that is the case then why are many people watching through scart!

I was very happy with my SD picture over HDMI.....UNTIL I watched one of my favourite channels and seen the difference.....I then switched to watching through my scart. If you are happy with the picture using HDMI then why not just carry on watching it, but let others decide which is better for them without stating that what you are saying is gospel...... and we all must agree. I think it was yourself (someone did anyway) who said that the setting on the Humax has to be set to 'original' for best picture, well I tried this, also tried 720 etc, and could see no difference.....still bad quality picture on my TV.

If you want to compare the picture over scart, then a good comparison is to go to channel 805 (Gems TV) as there is text and person to look at. The text is much sharper on my scart and the presenter and colours are more natural. I have been watching this channel for 2 years on freeview so knew right away when I switched my Humax on that the picture was well below the standard I had been used to.

Surely this forum is all about helping each other get the best possible experience from our new Humax recorder.....and having the freedom to express our views and ultimately do what works best for you is part of that.

As posted above it is likely down to Humax automatically adding noise reduction on the HDMI signal. Presumably they made a decision that they would get more complaints if noise reduction wasn't on than if it was, however it doesn't look like that is the case given the number of people who don't like the SD HDMI output. Can Bob Cat confirm whether the Humax applies noise reduction to SD pictures via HDMI even if original is selected?

I have my own views on it, but each to his or her own.

We have found that we can jump backward and forward using the arrow keys. We haven't quite worked it all out yet, but we absolutely LOVE our new Humax. It just does everything so right. Little things that used to annoy us about our horrid Topfield, like if it stopped recording another programme, it used to drop out the one you are watching for a few seconds, the Humax just doesn't do that. Everything is just so smooth and responsive, everything the Topfield wasn't. We never tune out of our Humax. We watch live television and recorded television from the same unit. and everything is just so easy. Hats off to Humax.

I purchased my Humax FOXSAT-HDR Saturday, took it back to the store Sunday!
Having used Sky+HD for ages, I found the Humax over complicated, I spent ages reading the instructions, and playing with the box very confusing, it's a shame it's not as straight forward as Sky.
The remote shows up every finger mark, and the build quality is not that great, so gone back to Sky.
This box could be good, if just needs more fine tuning from Humax.

We managed to use it without even looking at the instructions. We still haven't used them.

My wife, a 10+ year Sky/Sky+ user, got used to it in under a week, and now thinks it's better than Sky+, even with some of the foibles that are sure to get ironed out.

Shame you didn't really give it a chance.

Still, each to their own.

The manual is not the best thing about the HDR, and that's being kind. Your mistake might have been to read it . Pretty much everything else about the Humax is very good and, in my opinion, it is very easy to use. It should only take a few days (if that) to find one's way around it and master the basics without even opening the manual. Once you done that, the manual makes more sense and you can use it for some of the more advanced features.

Mmm, not quite right I think - if a programme is recording and you switch to that channel and wind back to the beginning of the programme (so you are essentially watching time-shifted) when either that programme or any other finishes recording it dumps you back to real-time and you have to wind back to where you were up to. Or is it just my box?

No, it's not just your box, but the work-around is very easy and has other benefits. Simply chase-play the recording rather than timeshifting the live broadcast. You can then also flip channels, or do any of the other things that would flush the live buffer if you are timeshifting, without losing your position. When you go back to chase-playing the recording, you can start it from where you left off. It's still a bug that needs fixing, though.

Change your picture settings on your TV or buy a HD ready one?
