Argos says up to 1750, but Currys says up to 2000. I know it's not a lot of differenece but I was just curious.

It depends a few factors, notably how compressed is the audio and what the average length of the songs are? So no one can give a difinitive answer.

The figures quoted vary and are given as an estimate really.

the size of the file will vary depending on the length of the song (longer song = more information = larger file) and also the way the song has been encoded (there are lots of different file formats, each with their own benefits) and also the bitrate the file has (this is a setting that it made when the song is ripped from its source (like when you put the cd in to the computer and iTunes (for example) imports the song from the CD, a higher bitrate keeps more of the song information but the cost of that is that it makes the end file larger.

all of these factors go in to processing of the file and changing these settings will result in a smaller or larger file depending on the options you choose.

edit: beaten to the answer while i was typing my post up

Alright. Thanks to both of you Doesn't really matter to me anyway because I will probably never go over 500/600 songs and maybe a few music videos. I've only got 355 songs on itunes, atm, and 8 music videos.

*EDIT* Just realised I spelled 'difference' wrong in my OP. I'm always making silly mistakes because I type so fast

My 32GB iPod Touch has around 3GB free and only around 3100 songs. This is because the average length of my songs is around 6 minutes (yes, I am a fan of 1970's progressive rock music!) and I tend to use high quality audio compression schemes.

Most of my songs are around 3 or 4 minutes long, but a few are 5 - 8 minutes.

I have an old 4gb player I use in the kitchen.

Filled to capacity, with a mixture of different birate and length MP3's, it tends to top out around the 800 mark.
