From the Romford Recorder, a rare interview with the star of Big Brother 3.

Here are a few quotes from the article...

'ALEX SIBLEY'S five minutes of fame have lasted a little longer than many of his Big Brother housemates – even though he admits he doesn't crave the celebrity lifestyle.......

The former model became famous for his good looks, which won him an army of adoring female fans, and for his cleanliness in the BB house, and he has emerged as one of the most memorable contestants from the popular reality TV show.

This week the Recorder caught up with Alex for a chat about life after Big Brother. He says although he knew the programme would get a lot of exposure, he had no desire to be really famous in the first place........

"Although fame is nice, I don't have a killer instinct for it."
He says because he is now recognised by many people, it has made him wary about going out. "I'm not really a local person when it comes to going out. I'm not a big pub goer; it's not really my scene. I don't drink much alcohol and I prefer going to the smaller unknown clubs in London. You find some people like you and others don't. I don't play on my recognition but sometimes it's nice when you get the perks.''

"The only drawback of doing Big Brother was that my parents were also dragged in to it, which I regret. Also the national press print all kinds of rubbish, like I've been a porn star or that I've had boyfriends. It's ridiculous but I've learnt to cope with it."

It was Alex's enthusiasm for cleanliness in the house that really got people talking. But he told the Recorder: "They (the BB producers) seemed to make the most of my cleaning. I'm not that obsessive, I just looked so clean because some of my housemates were so dirty." .........

During the interview it became apparent that there are no airs and graces with Alex. Perhaps his success has partly been down to the fact that he is an honest, level-headed and down-to-earth person who realises his moment of fame could come crashing down at any minute. "With reality TV you're here one minute and gone the next," he says.

But since leaving the house he has been working hard and trying to adjust to his new life. He has been involved in several TV programmes, including live shows on children's satellite channel Nickelodeon, which he described as "nerve-racking".
And one of the first jobs he was offered after Big Brother was to appear on the TV car show Driven.......

He says there will be no more reality TV for him. "Reality TV is just a phase. People are obsessed with what other people are doing, but I'm sick of these shows to an extent. I mean, I'm grateful for the opportunities BB provided me, but it's getting stale now. They need to revamp it."

Although he got on well with most of his housemates, he says he doesn't see much of the others now at all.

His latest venture is with ITV1's Everything Must Go, for which he is selling his beloved car, Beetle Betty. He said: "I've had it for three years and now I'm getting older I'm going for a different look." I'm sure this will not be the last we see of Alex on our TV screens.''

Read the full article here. Enjoy.

Thanks Gandalf

Excuse me. Alex does not charge a fee. Nor does he seek publicity when supporting charitable causes unlike nearly all the other ex-HMs.

How do you know Eejay?

It's quite a common practise for celebrities to get appearance money doing charity work, often in the form of expenses.

The Jack Petchy foundation, who Alex presented some awards for, actually stated that Alex didn't take a fee, but instead asked for a donation to be made to a special needs school in the area

Excuse me, but I think we have to bow to bystander's inside info on this occasion. I expect he's constantly sought out to do fashion shows and other celebrity events with wads of expense fees attached.

He could be anyone..... Vanessa Feltz....... Bernard Manning......Peter Stringfellow.....

Even someone really awful like Jonathan Woodgate.

To paraphrase Mrs Merton

Just what does Our Katie see in the millionaire footballer ?

I think she should dump him pronto before her sweet girl next door image is compromised

Oh sorry, I thought this was a Kate thread.

Back to Alex

Everything must go

There must be a few fans here who would like to get their hands on Alex's knick-knacks.

Any particular item you would like as a souvenir ?

I don't know whether Alex wants to forge ahead with a career in the media or not but what will hinder him if he does is, I think anyway, the bagage he seems to carry around with him. From what we saw of him on BB3 he carries his principles very close to his heart which is a good thing in this day and age but survivors in the media field seem to be those who let things go over their heads, in this respect he will always be seen as someone with quite a few chips on his shoulders unlike Kate who, it has to be said, is fickle compared to Alex but who will ultimately be the most successful in the arena in which she chooses to showcase herself.

Don't you think that part of the problem appears to be that he doesn't want to forge ahead

He seems to wait for someone to drag him.........reluctantly

If he wants a media career it's up to him to go get it

TV folks aren't going to come looking for him forever

Lack of naked ambition is an endearing quality but being slow to step forward is probably not good policy if you want a TV career

This is all assumption on my part. For all I know he's applying for every telly job going, just not getting any of them. But I suspect that he isn't.

Cough.....nothing much has changed in 7 months......heavily edited from my 'longer' period:-

.......To summarise I thoroughly applaud his <Alex> integrity/character. But, there are two howevers.....

Firstly, to me, he seems unwilling to compromise his principles for anything........
However, I'm concerned if he rigidly adopts.....when dealing with all the people he comes across while trying to forge a showbiz career. The result may be a total unqualified raging success, but, is it also possible that he may fail to get work he could otherwise have got with only a minor attitude adjustment?
I've tried to explain this before.....I also think Achtung has been in the same territory with greater success talking about dragging weights/millstones around his neck (apologies if I have misreported your views).
......Above all this though, either he must be completely comfortable both with what he's doing and how he's doing it, or..... he has to be comfortable with the level of his discomfort (i.e happy with the price to be paid).

The second is to do with his appearance on Boys and Girls....ill-advised to take part in such a degrading programme.....I don't care whether he was doing a friend a favour, trying to lighten up, or trying to reach a new demographic group or whatever. I'm much more concerned that he will have alienated people of influence to his career.....An all-time programme low.
.....attempting to be Jonny, and admittedly doing an absolutely excellent job, he ultimately failed both the speed and endurance drinking tests......Seriously, my immediate reaction was this is Jonny territory......

I also spoke of Kate.....Maxiii's 'thoroughly modern miss' expression. Whilst that does tend to imply lower standards (by my standards) that isn't automatic. Some could be higher. What they will almost certainly be is different. Over time, she has done and said a few things that would fail Alex' standards, but, presumably not hers. This doesn't make them wrong imo. She hasn't done or said anything that offends me, but there have been a couple of instances of too much detail for my taste.
.....Kate happily answers all sorts of questions, maybe because she seems to better understand how to play the game, or maybe just because she isn't uncomfortable with the questions. However, she did refuse to name a name in that interview, I think despite several requests. She does have standards and they're different to Alex'. We've done the conflicting stories/liar thing so please let's avoid repeating that.

My bottom line on all this is, that if Alex could 'go with the flow' and lighten up 10 or 20%, and Kate could go in the other direction and tighten up by a similar amount (separately/independently), they each would benefit.......
The only thing to add is that it seems that Alex is not prepared to pay the necessary price. Kate is clearly willing to pay a higher price. The most important thing is that they are both happy with what they are doing, and are prepared to accept the consequences. I suspect they both are.

I have a clear conscience in talking about them both on an Alex thread on two counts. The first is that, with Kate more in the public eye and criticised for all sorts of 'misdemeanours', it is an easy comparison to make. The second is that Kate's already been mentioned and it's what my old post did anyway.

I want to emphasise that their individual success is totally independent of each other. I wish them both well.

For what it's worth that imo what makes him unique.

He wasn't after the fame etc., he is just an okay guy. No bad thing.

Jon Tickle seems to be going the same way. Good on them I say.
