I don't want to pick you up on everything bystander, but I can't let this go because it's just not true. It suggests that Alex is only amusing and entertaining when he's drunk! Alex was consistently entertaining for the full 9 weeks of his stay in the BB house, he certainly wasn't drunk for that whole time.

You're thinking of Jonny surely, or Kate perhaps.......

Except, of course, that neither of them was entertaining at all, drunk or sober.

I think what might be more accurate is that *none* of them were entertaining - or likeable - at all, drunk or sober.

@ you Bystander, you are nothing if not persistant. Need I remind you us Angels are out in force at the moment ( You must have noticed , especially this time of year ) So come on time to straighten that wonky halo of yours I think, and be nice about Alex, for a while at least or is it that you secretly enjoy provoking the wrath of the Angels

Well, I guess it depends on what you think his best moments were. Amongst my favourites would be

Where's my sausage ? ( night 1 ? )
That's the way, haha
Swapping clothes in the giant condom
Creeping into Katie's bed for FTV
Larking with Jonny on the shopping trollies
Lick my A*se row with Jade
Naked frollicking with Kate, Jade and err Jonny

Do you think he was drunk for any of them ?

I think he was sober when he teased the chickens by pretending to be someone else

As the Angels say, Alex was wonderful !!

No, the Angels an them begins with the words 'Alex IS wonderful'. It ends with stuff about you & Bystander, but I won't repeat that bit here.

You can't rewrite history swing, not for Kate or for Alex. He was hilarious drunk but he was just as funny, charming, mad and entertaining sober. For instance:-

- "..I'm even pissing myself off because I'm a nagging all the time...."

- ".... can you hear that? Getting all the anger out of her system. Perhaps she'll be a bit more bearable now."

- "Be careful Sandy........Sandy be careful...."

- ..."....would there be a problem if we terminate the liiiives of certain chickens (pause) to eat?"

- Picking all the girls - except Kate - to join him on the rich side (what other bloke from any other BB would have dared to do it? The ultimate snub to the other blokes and a masterstroke in raising the temperature within the house.)

- "Can we have some frog food please?"

- Staying up all night to make his Sandy puppet "... Oh no, his legs have gone all wonky......"

Alex was - and is - wonderful.

Darling - thanks for the memories. Alex is just a class act but I've given up trying to persuade this lot.

Favourite moment .... leaving the loathesome Kate on the poor side. Brilliant, just brilliant.

OK, Eejay & darling, I'm persuaded

Gosh, I know I spent nine months ranting against the BB3 lot as wannabee drunken show-offs, but BB4 put it into perspective

Give me BB3 anyday !!

And yes I admit it - Alex WAS and IS wonderful !!

( he is so wonderful and self-effacing that I feel sure he would find any good-natured ribbing from our esteemed forum as highly amusing and in no way hurtful )

I'm sure he was wonderful, but sadly I just switched off every time I heard his drivelling monotone voice.

Some of us have critical discernment, whereas others will just watch any old muck on the TV screen.

Still others will invoke the snob factor when deciding on whether or not to like a TV programme.

Nothing to do with snobbery, and everything to do with the low quality of the programme, but then that's the sort of tactic I'd expect.

For this week's task to determine who will live on each side of the house, the housemates will play musical chairs...

It was puerile and pathetic.

And Helen pogo sticking in series 2 was so highbrow eh? You cannot say that Big Brother has ever had any real intellectual significance, that's absolute rubbish. It's all about voyerism, and identifying with particular characters, always has, always will be. Which is why I love it - pre BB4 anyway. All the criticism of BB3 smacks of trying to set yourself up as intellectually superior, and yes, snobbery. If this is a "tactic" that you'd expect, ask yourself why people would see it that way.

It's all a matter of striking up a balance between substance and "fun". BB1 and 2 managed it. As for BB having no significance, what an ignorant viewpoint.

No. It's about BB3 being a load of crap. But of course in your eyes, anyone who doesn't like it is just being a snob. Real quality argument there.

Nope, that's not what I'm saying at all. Frankly I didn't like most of the people in the BB3 house, and I think that some of the tasks were far too easy and unchallenging. But the drama of it, all the rows and the upsets, was compulsive viewing, and Alex was and is wonderful! Just saying BB3 is "a load of crap" shows how high and mighty you think you are. People can dislike BB3, it's up to them, and in no way would I call every single person who disliked it a snob. Your attitude does come across as superior, whether you mean it to or not, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that.

And I didn't say that BB has no significance, I qualified my point of view, I said BB has no intellectual significance. Which it doesn't. I can't see there being a BB degree course for instance! I do think it has cultural significance, but do you really believe all the hogwash channel 4 fed us about it being a psychological experiment?! It's a gameshow, pure and simple, and that is far from an ignorant viewpoint. I'm not ashamed to say that sometimes I like to come home, switch off my brain and watch some trashy tv, are you?

He was a ****, IMHO. So were most, if not all, of the others. And the series was vile, trading on the grim spectacle of friction, misanthropy and little else. I watched it out of habit, and felt soiled for doing so.

Quote:

No. It's a very accurate assessment of a very poorly conceived and crudely executed TV programme, that was popular precisely because it appealed to the lowest common denominator.

Quote:

There's no safety in numbers, and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn anyway.

Then you've obviously never heard of Media Studies have you?

Quote:

To dismiss any other factor in BB's appeal other than it being just a game show is exceptionally ignorant.

I watched most of BB3 for completism and had it on whilst I was doing other things. In general, I don't enjoy watching trash, no, but at least you agree that BB3 was essentially brainless.

Elitist crap. ... from the ' academic' who goes on to confess to watching BB3, and all the other BBs. In fact, not only did you watch them you memorised them. ... I guess that's 'critical discernment' for you. ... or is that BB3 highlights video of yours working overtime.
