Would this be a good MP3 player to get?

I'm going on a trip soon and I need something in which I can put 10 hours worth of lectures on....

Is there any other good MP3 player under £20 which can store 10 hours worth of lectures? Oh and I would prefer to buy it from Main stores like Argos. Dont' buy anything from online.

If thats ALL you want it for, you could probably just about cram 10 hours worth onto a 1gb player.

Be pushing it storage wise even at 128 kbps MP3 but if it's spoken word only, you could probably drop the quality a bit without it being too detrimental.

Have a look in the supermarkets, no idea really about players at that really cheap end but I do know you'll get more for your money if you buy online .... why are you avoiding online?

Oh, you could try and find one of these:

... but it may prove difficult trying to actually find one anywhere!

I would say for the purpose that you are looking for probably yes. I bought an Aigo MP3 player from Argos several years ago which had very similar specs to that Goodmans one and used it to actually record lectures - it worked a treat and the lectures were around 50 minutes long.

Assuming that the lectures you have are prerecorded, you could easily get hold of a free MP3/Windows Media Audio/Wav converter (I use a very good one from Koyote Soft) that would allow you to compress the audio files to a low bitrate, for example down to a 56kbps (or lower) MP3 file which would probably more then allow you to store the files on a 1gb MP3 player. As sancheez said, if you are only using it for recorded voice, the 'loss' in sound quality by compressing the files to such low bitrates probably wouldn't be too noticeable.

P.S. If the lectures are already pre-recorded, you could consider going for the Alba 2gb MP3 player from Argos - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...7C12108851.htm

I bought one of those for my mother to take on holiday 2 years ago and it works brilliantly: For an extra £2 you could have piece of mind that you would most likely have more than enough storage space.

your budget is very low. I think not possible to get any mp3 with a large memory only in £20.
