Just a quick easy question, have i got this right.

That if i bought a dvd recorder, i connect it to my sky+ box, press record on the dvd recorder, and play the programme i want to record on to the dvd. < is it that simple.

Also can you recommend me quite cheap ones as well, i'm not fussed about the quality as long as you can see it. Also i wouldn't mind one that can transfer VHS to DVD as well Also how would that work, would you need it connected to a tv or would you just put in the VHS and click transfer

Yes that's it.

As for recommendations don't ask me, I have had a Sony, Phillips and Panasonic die on me.

I've got a Panasonic VHS/DVD recorder. You just shove your video in, set it to DVD mode and "bingo" it records your videos straight to DVD. No hassle, one machine and simple enough for even me to work it.
It was just under £200 from Currys IIRC. They might be cheaper now.

You won't be able to copy commercial videos (macrovision copy-protected). And you won't be able to copy Sky Box Office recordings (again, macrovision copy protection).

But you shouldn't get a message about copy protection when trying to copy anything else (i.e. all other Sky broadcasts, video recordings you have made yourself).

So a programme broadcast the other day on say BBC2, and i wanted it to copy to a dvd, i wouldn't get a 'copy protected' message.

yeh u can still do that, although i had a bit of bother late last year with copy protection coming up when playing my sky+ and recording from my dvd recorder. Theres a thread elsewhere on this issue that many were having, but i've had no probs since.
