cannot read usb stick
taller
17-02-2009
I have a memorex 2Gb traveldrive USB stick, and when connecting to front humax USB port, it appears a text which suggests me to connect a FAT16/32 or EXT2/3 usb device to work.
My stick is FAT32 formatted, just checked it again on computer. I've tried to format it to FAT (16), and the problem is still there.
Any ideas why it isn't working ?

I can't find the thread taller, but it was apparently down to the speed of some of the chips in the sticks.

Some work some don't.

I think this is the thread taller, maybe you can pluck something from this.

Sandisk Cruzer seems to be OK

Maybe successful users can post what they are using so you can get the same, then you'll know you should be OK.

It has to be the the usb stick I had probs with the cheap directly imported rubbish bought on ebay. I fixed the problem by buying a 16GB "Byte Store" from an Amazon seller - works fine around £18 delivered from Jersey -next day - also use a usb WD passport 320GB Hard drive

Mine didn't. Same error as the OP. It's an 8GB Buffalo drive I picked up from Tescos ages back.

So I did a quick Google and found this.

Basically, once you've done a low level format you then format it normally in Windows (FAT32 naturally) - the problem is that the partition is knackered or something like that.

Using this method I now have about 30GB of music on the HDR and some QI episodes on my PC...

Sorry to drag this thread up again.

I bought a 8gb maxwell retractable pen drive to take some content off the hdr

The hdr says to format it as fat 32 when i plug it in.

On my pc its says that it is fat 32 formatted.

I have moved music and pictures from my pc on and off it so it is not "broken".

A 512mb usb stick that i borrowed WILL work on the hdr no problem. The pc says that is fat only not "fat 32"

I have tried "if2k7" link on post above to slow format and then format in windows but no joy.

Thought this would be relatively straight forward

thanks for any advice

@spade

I think your question was answered in post No 2.

Cheers altone.

Just had hoped there might have been a workaround that someone had discovered in the last while.

Oh well.

you need to open the destination folder or root on the usb stick by pressing the ok button (in the right hand pane) and then going back to the programme and the green button icon should reappear

Click on the SDA drive icon on the right hand side to open the root folder. Now go left and cursor to the file you want to copy/move. Green will now work because it knows where you want to send it to. Multiple transfers are possible by multiselection usin edit mode
