I've noticed that ITV seem to be having Series Link issues with the programmes on Sunday evening.

Dancing on Ice, Wild at Heart, & Dancing on Ice the Skate Off, have all lost their series links. Going back into the Guide only allows you to record one instance, the Series CRID is missing.

Also, the programme following these, the new Piers Morgan Series, has also got no Series CRID.

Now ...... All these programmes are correctly set up on Freeview on my Humax 9300T

Is this a Freesat/Freeview thing, or is it an ITV problem? Does ITV provide different information to Freesat for their EPG, than that provided to Freeview?

Rgds.

It looks like they are f'ecking about with the system to fix their cockup of ID'ing all their shows as HD... or something like this...

Yes I believe that is correct

Well, if that's the case, they are not very clever, are they?

This is a classic no-no, in systems design.

However many downstream systems you have to feed, you want your base data to be the same in one system/database. You then deal with any differences with flags in the database, which are then accounted for in the interface feed design.

This sounds like they are updating 2 systems differently (manually, at some point in the chain), at source, which increases the risk of data errors, as we are seeing.

Seems crazy if this is actually the situation, but can't think of another reason of why Freeview is OK, but Freesat is not, on what should be the same series link data.

I have Last rise to Candleford and Wild at Heart in the HDR schedule to record.
Usually after recording the programmes the schedule list (when set to series record) show the date of the next episode.
Now Candleford is showing correctly the next episode (next Sunday) but the Wild at Heart schedule is still showing last Sundays date. This normally happens if there are no more episodes to be shown, but in ITVs case, it can happen at any time.

I just spoke to a Technical Manager at ITV, by telephone.

He says they are aware of the Series Link issues with the sunday evening problems, as well as Wild at Heart missing its HD flag for recording.

They have been working on these since Wednesday, since they acknowledged the problems after investigating from my earlier emails to them, but haven't found the fault.

He says that the highest priority is the Wild at Heart HD flag, as there is a "workround" to the series link by just setting a one-instance recording, for now, until it is fixed.

Strange that it is taking so long to find & fix.

Hopefully, sorted by Sunday !!

Well, I've just had a call on my mobile from ITV (was in my sig in the email I sent to ITV).

Derek, the Tech Manager, says his team have fixed it, and would I mind testing it out as an "end user".

I confirmed that Dancing on Ice/SkateOff, Wild at Heart, and Piers Morgan now correctly Series Link, and that Wild at Heart HD Flag is present, allowing HD recording.

Derek says that this is all new technology, and the more people point out errors or anomalies to them, the better the technical service will be. They are very happy to receive emails for the attention of the Technical Team.

ITV have have messed up next week's series link for Wild at Heart (again). It is flagged as available in HD, though, but a lot of good that is if it doesn't record at all.

It's all of those programmes early Sunday evening in my previous posts, that have lost their Series Links again - Dancing on Ice/SkateOff, Wild at Heart, and Piers Morgan.

I will send the ITV team an email now.

Thanks for the info and updates, Les.

I'd noticed problems with Dancing on Ice and Piers Morgan myself on a recently bought Humax Foxsat HDR and thought I was going mad or it was a problem with my box. The wife is none too impressed at our first missed recording having had hardly any problems on Sky+ previously.

Glad to know it's an acknowledged problem that's being investigated. Might help draw some fire away from me

Cheers, Mark.

Have you asked Derek about The Bourne Supremacy..? It is going to be in HD, and whether they can code it up with as an SE as well as giving the Alternative HD Instance info..?

It is only an SE for me currently in the EPG.

Theyve also got the UEFA CL preview show linked with the game itself on series record so you have to set an individual timer if you want the game only.

Yes, I've had an acknowledgement, but nothing else yet.

I'll update on my Bourne Supremacy thread in this forum , if I get an update.

Still no update on the sunday evening programmes Series Links problems, and still missing on the EPG.

I sent another email to ITV yesterday, but I'm away now until Fri night/Sat morning with no access to email or forums.

Same update on the Bourne Supremacy HD flag issue on Saturday.

Rgds.

My FA Cup HD timer last night failed to start recording (using channel 977 - ITV London)... It looks like they did not send the start flag - yet again!

The Sunday Evening programmes in my original post now have their Series Links restored - checked this morning.

I'll monitor on Monday morning to see whether they "stick", or lose them again like last week.

(Bourne Supremacy on Saturday, still no HD Flag )

Rgds.

Is it worth us starting a 'EPG errors" thread - or maybe even one for each broadcaster - and trying to let the relevant people at each of the broadcasters know about it? We used to have something similar on the Tivo forums and it worked pretty well - no discussion, just posts with error/ommission details.

I've just tried to set a series link for C4's "Red Riding" which is being promoted as a set of 3 films but is only registering as a one off recording in the EPG at the moment.

Well, I checked this morning, and the series links have gone on all those programmes, again.

I know they were there on Saturday, I even wrote down the Series CRIDs (sad, I know ).

The progs recorded successfully last night, but the timers are still sitting there at the front of the Schedule on 1/3.

Another odd thing - Wild at Heart on CH103 (which is ITV1 London for me) still has its HD Flag on, and will let me set up a single instance timer on the Alternative HD instance. CH977 ITV1 London, does not have the HD Flag on Wild at Heart, and only the Record/Watch selection comes up, no SD/HD selection - how odd !!

Before I write to ITV, AGAIN, could someone check that their EPG is missing the Series Links, and the odd HD Flag thing, so I can be sure it's not just on my box (unlikely).

Thanks.

There is no series CRID on next weeks airing so it wont update the 1/3 schedule it's the same here using ITV central. The HD flag is present also

Thanks Graham, same results as me on Series Link (I'll assume you have no SL on Piers Morgan), but you have HD Icon on WaH on 977; I don't , interesting

I'll drop them a line.

Odd? Not at all! This is ITV, after all . But then, you should realise that .
