Albert King
BB King

r&b now as defined by some of the artists listed is just a lot of wailers sounding like theyve got their genitals caught fast on barbed wire.

Has to be Robin Thicke for me, because his music is brilliant and his voice is so soulful and sexy. My fave songs from him are Lost Without You, Wanna Love You Girl and Magic.

From Hayley

haha I agree
Damn I thought this thread is about a good old Rhythm and Blues. Sadly there is no blues in a modern R&B

I love BB King, the King of Rhythm and Blues

It evolved around the eighties, but began to devlop into how it is now, in the late 90's.

Original R&B split in two directions round about late fifties/early sixties.
One path led to soul music(James brown, motown, disco etc) and then modern R&B.
The other path led to rock and metal(Chuck berry, Early Stones and Beatles, british blues boom).

I'm not a modern R&B fan, so my fav stuff from that genre is classic r&b, from the fifties and sixties.

This is my path
But I also love the fifties and sixties stuff
I also dont mind some good soul/funk music but I'm not interested in the modern R&B at all.

Well if we're being fussy i'd say maybe she's classed as a mix of R'n'B and Pop
