what is Roi?

Sky Sport News is a subscription channel and unlikely going to be FTA or even FTV.

Unless of course you have Freeview where it's FTA/V.

Still say they should have a BBC Extreme Sports Channel and buy in content off Extreme (although they could show their own DVD films as well).

The areas that are really poorly catered for on Freesat are sports (only Al Jazeera) and youth programming (none other than the music channels).

Extreme caters for both and in so far as there's a gap in the public broadcasting demographic thats not being catered for by existing broadcasting, the filling of that gap has to represent value for money to the tax payer in the BBC satisfying its public broadcasting role of servicing the whole community. In so far as they were to form their own Extreme channel, the fact that they were buying in most of the content would be no different to many terrestrial channels.

The fact that some of us non youths would like to also see Extreme Sports given coverage is a bonus.

Merely pointing out that Sky Sports News (Mentioned in the topic) was available on Freeview incase this wasn't known / had been forgotten).

Everyone was, I think aware it's a freesat topic.

It might make some sense for Sky News to be included in the freesat EPG, perhaps as a different channel to that in Sky's EPG (they already have several regional variants). This would allow Sky to fill the commercial breaks with ads about how wonderful Sky is (do they do this on Freeview?).

One of the problems Sky have with people chosing freesat rather than Sky for FTA chanels is a lack of opportunity to brainwash them into taking out a subscription. Having one or two channels that people may watch on freesat would give them this opportunity, and they would be broadcasting to people who already have a dish pointing at 28E who (probably) don't already have Sky.

However, on reflection, the audience may not be as well targetted as I first thought. I suspect there would be a good likelihood that freesat owners would be resistant to Sky's advertising.

It's a fair point - advertising to people watching on cable, may not be able to install a satellite dish and the best they can hope for is to encourage them to subscribe to the Sky channels via cable.

If you are watching on Freeview, you may not be able to have satellite dish or cable - try and brainwash them as much as you like, you can't get a sale.

Freesat viewers are the one group of people that they are guaranteed could install a Sky receiver. No uncertainties about whether they can have a dish, obstructions of line of sight to the satellite, etc.

Then again, Freesat viewers are probably all Sky refugees anyway
