Whole day of recordings missed!
I suspect this is more a "feature" than me asking for advice, although if anyone has any suggestions they're welcomed.
After many weeks of successful recordings (and the odd missed recording) yesterday the Humax failed to record (from memory): - Come Dine With Me - The Simpsons - Hollyoaks - The Brits - Waterloo Road Interestingly, when we turned the box on around 10pm it then recorded the next scheduled recording (the Brits aftershow). The box had been in standby since Tuesday night but has always come out of standby to record in the past. Any ideas, or is it just a bug? It seems to miss more and more recordings lately though - Sunday it missed the FA Cup game and some other Channel 4 fodder. Cheers |

I had that once, the only time it missed a recording was a friday night when it didnt do 3 or 4 programs.
Since then, it hasnt missed anything. I assume it just had trouble coming out of standby for some unknown reason. Its just a bug. |

I had a similar experience once, although it only missed a single programme. What I think can happen (and this is just a wild guess) is something like the following.
I'm guessing that, when in standby, it only has a single timer set - for the next time it is due to wake up looking for the start of a recording. If there should be a power interuption at that time, it doesn't wake up. That is what I observed with a real power cut - the power came on during the programme that was due to record, but it didn't wake up then to record what was left of it. Extending the guess further, it doesn't reset its wake-up timer for the next programme because it needs to be awake to do that. Turning it on manually will do that. I also suspect that waking up for it's nocturnal housekeeping would also reset things so that you wouldn't lose more than a day's recording from a single power cut. As I said, this is just wild speculation. It fits what I've observed, but there could well be other explanations. It is perhaps something Humax should look at. |

![]() It's also something that can be tested as it makes specific predictions about the boxes behaviour. |

. We get enough genuine power cuts here without me introducing my own . Incidentally, it may a little more complicated than I suggested. I did try one easy experiment. I turned the power off just before the box was due to wake up and tuned it back on afterwards but before the programme was due to start. It was OK with that. Perhaps it only fails to wake up if the power is still off a long enough time after it was due to wake up. |

Thanks for the responses.
The power cut explanation sounds feasible in some cases, but we rarely have problems with that so it doesn't explain the problem I had. I think it's just a problem with the box coming out of standby for some reason on accasions, but can't place why it happens sometimes and not others. Maybe until it's fixed, when I'm recording something important I'll just have to leave it on. |

Try doing a factory reset, that seems to cure a lot of strange occurrences on STB's, PVR's and HDR's. You won't lose any recordings or scheduled timers, although before doing a reset I personally prefer to delete all timers anyway, just in case.

Just don't leave the box parked on a channel that is part time and goes off air! See my bug list: http://foxsat-hdr.wikispaces.com/Bug...ues+and+WishesA factory default reset is recommended (as above). |

Thanks again.
son_t, you're right, no radio alarms flashing 12:00 so clearly no power cut here... Looks like trying a factory reset then. If I do this does it definitely not delete scheduled recordings and the recordings already on the HDR? Thanks |

Don't want to wander too far off topic but I've one alarm and onve very old dvd recorder both of which reset to 12:00 at the hint of the power being taken away, so they're as good an indication as any.

Not all radio alarms default to twelve midnight after a power interuption some have a battery back-up or have some other means of energy capacitance to enable the product to retain the correct time

Right. But for proof of a power cut, you would check the one without battery backup, of course!

But an unreset clock is not proof that there hasn't been an outage

Unless all our power cuts happen at exactly midnight I don't think we've had one in years...
Anyway - any chance of someone confirming all my schedules and recordings won't be deleted with a factory reset? Cheers |

A good indicator of a power cut is it goes all dark and you cant see anything |

Been told it will delete your schedules but your drive will be unaffected and retain recordings.
