Scouting For Girls - why the hate
I though their album (are we allowed to call it that anymore?) was good and quite witty.
The Times were vicious towards them in the preview of the Brits in the 18/02/09 edition. Can any one enlighten me? |

The singles they have released have been very repetative. I couldn't tell Elvis Isn't Dead from She's So Lovely or Heartbeat when they first came on the scene. Now I just about manage it. On the strength of that, I wouldn't buy the album.

It's because all of their songs sound exactly the same. And they get away with it.

I don't hate them but wouldn't like to have to listen to any of their stuff, it is all annoyingly repetitive.

I can't stand the way the lead singer tries to sing with a middle class accent. So fake.
Like Simon Anstell put it, the lyrics to each song they bring out could easily be substituted for the words "cheeky, smug, cheeky, smug, cheeky, smug, cheeky cheeky, smug smug". |

Their music is very repetitive and all their songs sound exactly the same, and I don't just mean similar as in all the same genre, I mean they're easily mistakable for each other.
That and the lead singer can't sing and whoever writes their lyrics... CRINGE |

It seems to me, that you can't have male pop bands like SFG, the Feeling and the Hoosiers without them getting slagged off for writing catchy pop tunes.
Pop snobbery at its worst. |

I love Scouting For Girls, but I do agree there songs can be very repetitive.
"I wish it was me you chose, I wish it was me you chose, I wish it was me you chose, Elvis aint dead, and you're coming back, and Elvis aint dead, and your coming back" "She's so lovely, she's so lovely, she's so lovely, she's so lovely" "I guess we got, I guess we got, I guess we got nothing to say. I guess we got, I guess we got, I guess we got nothing to say" As I say, I love them, because the songs are catchy, but as far as lyrics and song writing goes, it is quite poor. |

The hate is because if I hear the opening piano and bass to She's So Lovely again I'm afraid I will have to commit mass murder... I HATE his voice as well. The songs are shite because once you've listened to them once that's it, they're so shallow. And if they change, people will forget it's them and so they won't buy their records. Flash in the pan.

Pop snobbery at its worst. I did like The Hoosiers' first single but then the second sounded exactly the same! Same with SFG. First single = great. Second single = carbon copy of first. Third single = carbon copy of first. And so on. At least you can instantly tell the difference between Love It When You Call, Join With Us, and Rose*... It's all about range and keeping the interest. *can't do the accent on the E, sorry! It's not pop snobbery, it's just opinion. I love good old cheesy pop music as much as the next person - all I ask is quality and variety. |

See, I love The Feeling, I think they make great, distinctive, fun pop music that puts a smile on my face.

I love Scouting For Girls.
I don't mind they sound repetitive. I'd listen to them over most of the rubbish artists currently at the top of the charts today. |

Never mind they will be gone soon and they can join the likes of Menswear, 911 and Bad Boys Inc in obscurity.

You probably don't listen to any music outside the top 10 and I put that in the nicest way possible. If you did then you'd listen to band like Art Brut if you want catchy, witty lyrics.. heres the thing with Scouting For Girls... its not that they're just terrible, Its the way they've gone about being terrible and got away with it aswell. You couldn't even call them a guilty pleasure, they're just plain crap. Repetitive, cliche, uninspiring, nonsense.
That's probably why I love Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper and Roisin Murphy. |

I think they're awful. Rubbish name, rubbish songs. They're the one band who make me switch for the retune dial when they appear on the radio.
