Just thought I'd mention, for anyone who hadn't noticed...

Google calendar and contacts syncing with iPhone (over the air) is now directly supported by google (albiet in beta). It works extremely well though - better than I ever got mobile me to work! Everything updates pretty much instantly!

So I now have 3-way (in the cloud) syncing with Thunderbird, Google calendar and my iPhone... for free... what else could I guy (or indeed girl) want!?

Anyone who wants to try it should follow the google intructions carefully - sync up with google via iTunes before setting up your iPhone - as it wipes calendar and contacts on your iPhone the first time it syncs over the air.

It was mentioned in the iPhone thread. I have been very impressed with it so far, hopefully Google gets push email very soon. I wish I could get contacts correctly synced with Address Book though. I keep trying to sync but they never show up anymore so I will just have to stick to using Gmail web interface for now which is fine by me.

I know this just doesn't work right through Thunderbird - contacts appear in Thunderbird when added on iPhone or Google website, but contacts added within Thunderbird arn't going anywhere - tis very strange.

Anyone got this working 100%??

As I already had Google Sync set up for Contacts & Calendar, I just needed to enable it for Mail (& delete the now redundant Gmail IMAP account).

I am gutted! I couldn't live without the push email so I decided to pay for MobileMe. I am still hoping for full exchange support rather than just ActiveSync, that way I could use it with my Mac apps (Address Book and iCal (could use CalDAV but not perfect)). Mail.app is push already using IDLE IMAP. It is tempting to use Spanning Sync again but I still have about 9 months left on MobileMe.
