Atomic Kitten (Copycats)
Yes thats right Atomic Kitten are really annoying me because of the numerous covers they do. Can't they write their own music for christ sake?!
Sorry if you disagree but I think they are most untalented group in the UK. |

It's not like they're the only group/artist doing cover versions...
Westlife DJ Sammy Gareth Gates Blue and the list could well go on and on and on... (please note, I'm not actually *defending* Atomic Kitten) |

The point is they don't need to do covers.
I loved When You Come To Me - so they can do new songs (irrelevant whether they write them or not) - but as with alot of groups these days doing a cover is a sure way of having a big hit, therefore making easy money. May be more what the record companies want rather than their artists, which is a shame. As I'm old enough to remember alot of covers the first time round, it is boring and I choose to buy artists who do their own songs. But then there's a whole generation for who these songs are new and so they may like to hear them. But I only like them if they do a good version. They did murder Blondies' Tide Is High and Westlife doing Mandy is quite painful. But then it was when Barry Manilow did it as well. |

nonsense, being able to write a song doesn't mean you are talented, or vice versa. being able to interpret a song is where the talent is.

That clearly shows why the pop music industry is on a downfall due to unoriginality.

My problem with Atomic Kitten isn't that they do covers. It's that no matter what song they release, they only actually have TWO songs they can perform: Disco-tastic dance pop and asinine syncopated-beat ballad. Every song is shoehorned into one template or the other - even The Tide Is High was massacred with the same acoustic guitar noodling and sub-Massive Attack shuffling beat. It's music by numbers, and it's as cynical as it gets. That said, they make good eye candy. |

Sorry if you disagree but I think they are most untalented group in the UK. I'd hardly say they do 'numerous covers'. Ladies' Night will be their third cover, which, out of a back catalogue of 13 singles, is not excessive at all. In fact, it's a ratio of roughly 1/4, which is actually LESS than some 'respectable' bands such as Wheatus, Alien Ant Farm or Liberty X. It is certainly less than Westlife's current 5/17 (roughly 1/3) ratio of covers. It would be helpful if people could look at the facts instead of just coming on here and quoting outrageous nonsense |

I have to agree with you.
They have stood the test of time and look like to carry on well into the future. So what if they do covers? Would it be any better if they sang a song that was original, yet not written by them? Would that make them more respectable as artists? It's good hearing classics brought into the 21st century and hearing the change, but its just become an excuse to slag people off. Atomic Kitten make good music, fact. Dont generalise with the whole "all they ever do is covers" thing, coz it aint true. If your going to attempt to look like you are stating a fact, atleast make sure it is one. |

Yeah but Im only 15 and I want to hear NEW music, my dad has most originals, and in not many cases are the copies any better, or even as good.
I agree with FE, that they only have one or two styles of music, Yes they are also very good eye candy, but the only song I liked from AK was "Whole Again" that was a great song I won't deny that, but I dont really like any of the others. |

I have no problem with how many covers they do or dont do. I just do not understand 2who buys their stuff and why.
I'm not trying to get a reaction or anything as, even bands I dont personally like, I can see hwat people see in most music. Its just with Atomic Kitten I honestly dont get it. They really are just so bland and dull, I dont even dislike them. I honestly dont know anyone in my real life who has got a good word to say about them (ranging from age 8 to over 60) yet they still sell truckloads of records. Why??

Covers are just part of todays music industry - 9/10 times the covers are awful, and nothing like the original versions were. However, it does introduce the song again to another generation - who would proberly not listen to the song by the original artist simply because "it's too old". Example: Gareth Gates and the appalling version of "Suspicious Minds". There is in some cases where the covers are much better than the orignal version. Example: Atomic Kitten "Ladies Night" - I think this is quite good to be honest, as is the Girls Aloud version of "Jump in" Quote:
