Bourne Supremacy ITV HD
son_t mentioned this below in a freesat forum thread :- Quote:
Next Saturday (28th), The Bourne Supremacy is showing (in HD) but is not in the EPG yet. So if it is coded up as an SE, we won't be able to schedule it to record in HD
I've started a new thread in here, as my query is specifically related to recordings. This film is now showing up in the EPG, but the HD flag is missing - I've emailed the ITV Tech Team today about this. However, it appears to be coded as both a Split-Event, and Series Linked, so when you select the first part to record, it asks you if you want to record the series, and then the second part after the News shows up as a scheduled recording in the EPG, too. Does son_t's post indicate that if a programme is only coded as a Split Event, and not Series Linked, it will not record in HD, even when it is correctly flagged as HD? I wasn't aware of this limitation? Rgds. Les. |

My satelite TV guide shows it as SD only. Hopefully it's wrong.

)...The Freeview+/Freesat+ metadata system should be able to cope with allowing Series Record progammes to jump across (the same familiy) of channels, but the BBC have never done it with, say MotD when that jumps from BBC1 to BBC2. In fact SR ids tend to change for, say MotD, when there a long break between showings, for some unknown reason when they do not need too, which really infuriates me. This gives me the impression that Freeview+/Freesat+ data is not taken seriously (in which are not rules strictly adhered to) or that their system is unable to cope the implementation of the specification... |

All I know is that the BBC could not do it (code up an Alternative HD Instance) with a Split Event programme for Strictly Come Dancing... If the BBC can't do it, I don't think ITV can either (but I am happy to be proven wrong

If Split-Event does not work, then Series-Linking it should be a neat way round it. It should then be no different to any other Series-Linked HD programmes, like Wild at Heart, Billy Connoly, etc. Rgds. Les. |

Some channels used this method for a while (on Freeview+, until they were able to code up Split Event programmes). The problem is that, for PVRs which can playout the two pieces of SE programmes in one play*, will not be able to do so when programmes are ID'ed up as SRs... Also, it is a mess when SR timers get left hanging about (since there is no 'end of series' flag) in the timers list... and so it does need a little bit of thinking and consistency needed for coding programmes up this way... (Thought and consistency seem to be in short supply...)*The 9200/9300/9150T can do this (non-SR SE recordings). I was surprised when I found out the HDR could not do this... |

Agreed on thought & consistency; Five drive me mad with their "only testing" series links which insist on recording every instance, repeats and all. I just set manual timers for the 2 programmes on Five that SWMBO watches. Quote:

My 9300 copes admirably with This Morning; SWMBO is impressed that this will follow-on play without intervention, even though she sees it as 2 items in the Playlist.Rgds. Les. |

Ah I missed the date. Thats the one I saw in the programme guide as SD.
I would like to record the entire Bourne series in HD but to be honest ITV's red button system causes so many problems that I just don't find ITV HD worth recroding anymore. Even if it works OK you still have a split file. To me ITV 1 simply isn't worth the hard drive space. ITV 2 is a far better movie channel albeit SD only. |

Hi. Further to the above, having received my HDr and impressed by it - how does one go about setting an ITV program to record in HD? On BBC it is obvious, as it has its own channel and the EPG asks if you want to record the SD or HD Version - but how does this work for ITV, considering it doesnt have an HD channel?
For instance, I set the timer to record Bourne next weekend (28th February), which is due to be in HD, but there was no question about whether I wanted to record SD or HD. Thanks for answers |

Thanks for answers Try "Moving Wallpaper", or the Billy Connolly programmes. Press OK on the programme in the Guide, It will ask you SD or HD, choose HD , then it will ask Series or One Programme, make your choice and wait for it to record. It will only offer you HD, when there is an HD programme; same for Live, Red Button does not do anything unless there is an HD stream for the programme you are seeing in SD. I sent another email to ITV yesterday, but I haven't had a response.
It is still not showing as HD in the EPG. I'm away now until Friday night/Saturday morning without access to email or forums, so will not be able to update. Just have to keep monitoring the EPG ![]() Hopefully it will be fixed before showing Saturday evening. Same update on the Sunday evening programmes Series Links missing. Rgds. Les. |

Checked this morning, and still no HD Flag.
ITV appear to have fixed the Sunday Series Links, but not this HD Flag. I'm out this evening, so no opportunity to see whether it is actually broadcast in HD, available via Red Button ![]() Rgds. Les. |

^ I've never seen it happen ![]() To be serious - I know the technology is capable and the specs says you can too. But I've not seen it for MotD, even though this is a prime example of a programme that can utilise this facility to the convenience of those wanting to record it, as it regularly gets moved from BBC1 to BBC2. Why they just don't do it, leads me to the conclusion that there's something procedural that is failing (rather than technically)... but why have they not been doing it for so long leads me to conclude the converse - that they can't do it with their current technology..? 28th February @ 2100-2215 & 2235-2320 ![]() Again, this is another prime example of something that is failing - either technically or procedurally... Coding this programme to be a Split Event and offer an Alternative (HD) Instance, is fairly easy. But why have they not done so? (Again, this happened when SCD was coded up as an SE programme - but not offer the HD alternative - why?) ![]() ![]() MORE: talking of DTT... My Humax Freeview PVR had a Series Record timer for Heroes on BBC3 since the last episode on 17 Dec 2008... Now the new series has started but it failed to pickup the new episode! Now, assuming the Freeview+ code on the 9200T is working correctly (there no evidence that it is not with regards to what I am talking about), then I must conclude that they (the BBC) did not code up the new episodes with the same Series CRID! Why not? There's definitely something procedurally that is failing - they must have forgotten what Series CRID they gave the series!

They seem to keep all three systems (Sky/Freeview/Freesat) separate and that seems stupid to me. Surely separating them should occur as near to the end as possible.
The Sky EPG is and always has been very accurate. They are one of the few Sky broadcasters that update their EPG as schedules change. So how come the FreeXXX systems are so poor? Is the metadata really so different that they need separate systems to manage it? |

Freesat is a great system but the EPG data sucks and is totally letting the system down. Now you know why I don't bother recording from ITV 1 anymore, it simply isn't worth the drama. I also find split recordings unacceptable, I simply don't want a film in 2 files. I love the Bourne series but as I already have them as one file per film from ITV2 in SD, I'm simply not going to switch to 2 files per film even for HD. Here's hoping the BBC HD channel shows them! |

Did anyone else watch this and in the first half (before news) it wouldn't go in HD, but after the news the HD red button thing popped up and allowed me to watch in HD

![]() OK for me both halves - only problem was no blue button at end of first half - it came up "HD not availvable" and hung there without returning to SD for the news |
