Strange Dead Pixel Issue.
Good morning,
I am after a bit of advice. I have a Sony 1080p LCD (only bought two months ago) and for the last week, I keep getting a single dead pixel which is blue. What is confusing me however is that the dead pixel only appears on programmes that have been recorded from the Sky+HD box and never appears on anything watched live or via Anytime. Is anyone able to shed any light on this; is it the TV or the Sky Box that may be in need of repair? Thanks |

Are the recordings locked? We had a similar problem with our Sony and found that if the lock was taken off the pixel problem disappeared.

I'm sure I read this some time ago... was some quirk of the Sky+ box if I recall
Maybe ask this over on the SkyHD forums? |

I was watching something pre-recorded and noted four pixels all in a horizontal line, with a blue pixel second from the left. On the first occasion, it was on the bottom of my screen, the second upper part. I have a Sony Bravia 40" 1080p telly too. I did a search on DS and found a number of postings blaming it on some fault of Sky+ recording, so didn't lose any sleep. Apparently it's an unresolved issue. I've since recorded loads of stuff and it hasn't recurred. If it happens during a live broadcast, I'll probably freak out!! |

Following my post yesterday, got home from work this evening and my Sony was on Sky for EastEnders. Lo and behold, a line of white pixels appeared at 19:40. I have EE for series link, so guess i was recording at the time, but watching it as live playback when it appeared.
So I switched the TV to 'digital' ie, Freeview, put it to One and no sign of the white line / dead pixel. Swicthed it back to Sky and it had disappeared. Definitely a Sky glitch it seems, but strange this should start appearing some 8 months after having bought my Sony. Should I be worried? Invoke the guarantee etc?? |

You haven't seen it before, because it's REALLY rare to see it at all. |

Thanks. Well, I'm currently watching Sarah Connor Chronicles from last week and it's back again - same corner of the screen. Most of what I watch is via Sky, so may never happen at all via Freeview (borne out via the earlier test).
So are you saying an engineer call-out is worth it? Won't they simply attribute it to some Sky incompatibility or something? I watch a lot of movies via PS3 (Blu Ray or standard) and never seen this line of pixels. It's about, say, a cm in length, but still clearly visible. I certainly don't wanna have to be 'wiping' the screen via a quick on/off process or via Freeview for the rest of my days. Looks like I'll be placing a call to Sony customer services, then....Model is KDL-40D3500U btw. Cheers for the advice. |

However, if you very occasionally get a 1cm or so vertical white line (looks like an exclamation mark), the TV requires the software updating, technical bulletin 08TV017. |

Thanks Nigel.
This is now a 1cm horizontal line and, as reported, happened whilst watching a normal Sky broadcast episode of EastEnders last night, which I have on series link therefore recording, and also during playback of some recorded Sky + material. I don't have Sky HD (yet!). I was looking through the Sony manual, which said the usual gumpf about 'seeing red, blue or green' pixels is not an indication of malfunction', so as these are white lines appearing in the manner I've seen, I'm within my rights to report?? Feasibly, if I watched everything through my Freeview tuner, which isn't 'on', then I could never see this issue arise? I'm just not clear whether it's the TV - standalone - or because it's linked to Sky +, and popping up during recordings or watching of a programme that I'm recording. I don't yet think I've seen it appear during a programme that is being aired normally, that I'm not Sky +ing at the same time. Sorry if that sounds odd - just have feeling Sony will say that a software update will do nowt. I do intend to call, though. |

I'm having the same issue with my 40v3000. Does the technical bulletin apply to that model too and if I quote it to my retailer (or Sony Repair Centre) should they know what it is!!!??? Many thanks Peter |
