Lipsync
Apologies if this has been mentioned before...
For the first time since getting my Humax Foxsat HDR a couple of months ago I put it on ITV the other day and saw the "Press RED to watch in HD". "Great", I thought to myself, "this Billy Connolly programme will look good!" So I pressed RED, and almost immediately my girlfriend said, "Yeah, HD might be great an' all, but they can't get his lips in time with the sound!". "Aha!", I said, pointing upwards, "the Humax can handle that!", and I proceeded to fire up the Lipsync setting. Here's the problem; The sound on the broadcast in HD was slightly behind...as far as I know it's always been behind whenever I've seen this issue on TV before. In the Lipsync section on the Humax it appeared that I could only slow the sound down even more. The slider started all the way over on the left, and each press right made the sound another 10ms slower. What on earth is the point of not being able to adjust it both ways, or am I missing something? So I pressed BLUE and settled for watching it in SD with the sound correct. |

I was able to cure this on Billy Connolly by switching the Dolby sound off on the Humax. It was my first dabble with ITV HD so it will be interesting to see what happens this week.
Not sure if it was the move out of the ITV HD environment as Graham mentions or if it was the Dolby adding to the processing time. Experiment to be continued .... Last edited by germanycalling : 23-02-2009 at 18:03. Reason: clarity |

Happened last night on "Wild At Heart". The usual fix tune to 101 and back to ITV HD fixed it, so far (touch wood) when this occasionly happens this has fixed it
But..... I never watch Live, I'm always watching played back scheduled recordings. Do people still see lipsync issues on their recordings? Rgds. Les. |

Last night's Billy Connolly seemed fine, so I guess it's more a Humax/sound issue than a broadcast issue.
Still doesn't make sense that you can only adjust the lipsync one way though. |
