Problems with MP3 players…
Ænima

Have any of you ever had a problem with one? I find them very temperamental.

My brother had the ipod nano and kept having trouble with it erasing his stored music and having really poor battery life, so I bought the Zen equivalent instead, and I’d just like to say to anyone considering getting the Zen version… think twice!

I’d never heard of the ‘white screen of death’ before I got it.. Starting getting it a few months back, then it was permanently just a white screen. Music sometimes played but you couldn’t see what you are choosing- rubbish considering you are supposed to be able to watch video clips on it. Now it has just completely packed in! Apparently it’s a common fault and not much can be done about it.

What the hell? You’d think they’d test it before they released it, I never used to get this kind of thing with older technology! Annoyingly, it happened after I'd had it just over a year too so I can't return it. I suppose I shouldn't have really expected to get longer than that out of it, I just remember, I had a portable CD player for years and it always worked!

Maybe it isn’t modern technology, maybe I am just cursed

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check that player out. Trouble is, I recently bought a cheap one to see me through till I can afford to spend that much again (don't like being without music for long!) so I'll have to wait a bit now!

The stored music getting deleted was probably because he didn't have it all on that computer or he may have not saved his library.

They wouldn't be so successful if the devices were not reliable.

I've had my ipod hit pavement about thirty times and it still works just fine. Next to my Garmin satnav it is the most reliable piece of electronics I have ever owned.

Between me and the wife we've had a number of MP3 capable devices:

Several Creative players.
An iPod Mini and a 30gb 5th gen iPod.
Several CD/MP3 players many moons ago.
A Cowon A2 PMP.
A veriety of Sony phones which doubled as MP3 players.
Kenwood MP3/CD player in the wifes car.

The only one we've ever had any sort of trouble with was the iPod Mini. Buttons/wheel not responding properly and the built in battery eventually going kaput.

Other than that, every single one of them still works perfectly ..... even the ancient CD based ones!

No mp3 player ive ever owned has had massive problems, except one creative zen that had a loose headphone socket.

Had a few in the family here. Brother's iPod Nano first gen still going strong after a good 3 years of use and countless bumps and scrapes. Mum's Nano fine after 2 years as well. My Touch I've only had since Christmas but had no problems with that. Obviously every manufacturer makes the odd dud but it's safe to say that the whole region of MP3 technology isn't flawed.
