Jason's 5.5

I still can't understand Jason's reasoning for this score.

Because to me it looks like a faultless performance & so did the rest of the judges.

He was explaining it to Holly when the damn clapping & interruption from Phil drowned his voice completely.

Could someone tell me what he said exactly?

I think he's just trying to be controversial.

he said the rock and roll lift did not have enough height

Thanks. Now he's just nitpicking...silly man.

Jason said on This Morning that was the reason, he accepted he was nitpicking, but that he was judging Ray on Ray's own standard, not against anyone else, and he thought he should have been able to lift her higher. (Maybe he did in rehearsal?)

However as Ray was on one foot, due to the kick, it might have been a balance thing. That's my thought, not Jason's.

Jason also said if the had the mark in his power, it would have been 5.9. As he doesn't have that mark, he went down to 5.5.

In Rock n Roll on the dance floor that jump and kick is not performed any higher than Ray did it on Sunday but think in skating it is performed higher

when jason gave his reason for the 5.5 he said himself that he was being picky, but he has to be because ray is so good. i guess now because ray already got full marks so early they're going to be looking for silly mistakes

If that's the case, the whole thing is a nonsense because measured against Ray the likes of Coleen would have been scoring a big fat null points every week.

The whole scoring system is nonsense anyway if you expect it to have any meaning when comparing performances by different celebrities. All it can really do is rank them in terms of who the judges thought was best that week.

By that, I mean that if, say, Jess scores 20 one week and 25 the next, it doesn't necessarily mean she has improved by a whole 5 points' worth of skill and style - it just means that in the second week, somebody who skated before her has scored 24.5, but the judges thought Jess was better.

This isn't a very good explanation - it's been covered far better by the likes of icedragon elsewhere - but I hope you get my drift.

I wasn't very impressed by Jason's reasoning on Sunday, but I see his point about needing to mark Ray against his own capabilities, and not marking him perfect if he can do better.
