Bold new series tests competitors' survival techniques in New York's corporate jungle
In a bold new reality series that tests competitors' survival techniques in New York City's corporate jungle, NBC and executive producer Mark Burnett ("Survivor") will team up for "The Apprentice," a 13-episode series in which candidates vie for the chance to become an "apprentice" to a "master"- and one of them wins the dream job of a lifetime, as they learn from the master and earn a six-figure salary. During the first season of "The Apprentice," legendary business tycoon Donald Trump will serve as the "master" and his business empire, The Trump Organization, will be the hub of the competition.
In the series' concept, 16 candidates from all walks of life, including both Ivy League MBA graduates and street entrepreneurs with no college education, will endure rigorous selection as they are tested for their intelligence, chutzpah and street-smarts. They will face the challenges of living together in close quarters, must complete sometimes humorous but always difficult job assignments and will be forced to think "outside the box" in order to outshine each other to get to the top. Candidates not completing the job assignment successfully will meet face to face with Trump after each round of competition, enduring a grueling interview session with Trump and some of his key executives. Each week Trump will fire one candidate from the contest. In the season's final episode, one promising and ambitious person will emerge supreme and will be awarded a prestigious, year-long dream assignment -- and a six-figure salary -- that accompanies the status of becoming "the apprentice of a master." "The Apprentice" is produced by Mark Burnett Productions. Mark Burnett is the Emmy Award-winning executive producer of "Survivor", "Eco-Challenge" and co-producer of the new NBC reality drama "The Restaurant." Source: nbc.com |

There are three themes here (IMO)..
The first is the the raw 'Gangs of New York'..esque one where NYC is 'open to anyone' with enough nouse to make it there (eg Frank Sinatra style) is doing a reality series The second is the influence of Danald Trump and, although he owns many buildings in NYC, and has obviously made it there.. doesn't this just make my third point... Isn't this just (essentially) a set of cheap job interviews for a place in 'Trump Towers' whilst playing on the 9/111 sympathy theme?. well , <anyway> sounds good to me! .. only been to New York 2 times, but it really is an extremley vibrant place and a programme like this could easilly work.! |
