Raw chickens...
When you guys get a chicken for your tea & if you're not planning on cooking it for a couple of days, do you take it out of the packaging or just leave it in the cling film & tray that it comes in?

I leave it in the tray and would put it in the freezer if I wasn't going to eat it the same or next day after purchase. If the cling film was in anyway damaged I would put it in a freezer bag. Although I do try not to buy any meat that has damaged packaging.

It's straight into the freezer for me package and all. All the prep and washing is done when it get's defrosted.

I wouldn't, meat does change ever so slightly during the freezing process, so I try not to freeze anything that absolutely dosen't need to be.

Always thought it was a bad idea to wash poultry as all you do is end up spreading the bacteria around

Oh gosh no, it's how we were brought up. I'm sorry, I can't be doing with leaving that mucousy stuff that's found under the skin around the joints. I have to remove it, that means for a roast I have to prise up the skin and running the tap pull out the yukky stuff with my fingers. It's a job easier done when I am jointing the chicken and that stuff is hanging off. Besides I always wipe my sink area down anyway. I've lived this long with no problems.

![]() http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/asksam/kee...aring/#A222214 Food standards agency *should* have it right. I've never washed meat - ever. I'm 52 now so must be doing it ok. |
