Blur at no. 26. I don't know your source for those figures, but Iron Maiden is the widely recognised lowest selling no1.The website everyhit.com is just one of the many sources that will back this up.
How strange, I got it from the guinness book of singles records, hmmm unless they've revised the charts or something or these are different kinds of charts we're reading from....

For now I'll beg to differ.

Hmm that is weird. Might check with someone.

I guess the thing that appears unusual about the figures is that 28k would be incredibly low sales for a 1997 no. 1 when million sellers were a plenty; definitely a good year for singles sales, (unlike 2003!).

just a thought.

Maybe the list with Iron maiden as least selling is TOTAL sales whereas Blur might be the artist to get to no.1 with fewest sales in A WEEK

So technically I would think of Blur as the lowest selling no.1 if my suggestion was correct, whereas perhaps Iron Maiden sold the least for a song that got to no.1

Ive checked around and I think Im right (???) but it looks like Daniel Bedingfield has overtaken Blur with the dubious honour of worst selling weekly sale for a No1.

quote from everyhit.com >>>

" Lowest selling No.1 in total since at least 1960 is "Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter" by Iron Maiden. Its first week sales were roughly 42,000, second week 29,000, with a further 30,000 or so in the next few weeks bringing it to a total of around 100,000.

Lowest weekly sale for a No. 1 since at least 1960 is "Gotta Get Thru This" by Daniel Bedingfield. It sold 25,000 in the week it returnbed to top the chart for week ending 12th Jan 2002. "

Nevada,

Glad to see that you are interested in low selling number ones.

However, please quote your source - that is, me in this instance!! - if you post information that you have not collated yourself. You have just lifted my text straight from dotmusic.com.

I actually have been helping everyhit.com with such information and keeping them updated. As I wrote in dotmusic, Slow is probably going to be the lowest selling UK number one single in overall sales - at present it is on around 88,000 and is unlikely to sell much more than a further 5,000.

everyhit.com is pretty good site, nice one. Do you have a site of your own by the way? And where do you get your stats from, or would you have to kill me if you told me?

No site of my own - maybe one day.

I've collected info since the early 1980s from music magazines, books, the Internet and put it all onto computer. Some are estimates, which are usually quite accurate. Unfortunately cannot access the Official Chart Company database.

Always interested in any new singles sales that people find.
