First time I've heard it on the radio, sounds ok, but nothing compared to the original.

Who will be buying it? .... I won't.

I saw it on one of the music channels yesterday, lots of smiling and school children, it's filmed in that misty out of focus sort of American way - I didn't mind the song until I saw the video, it made me feel quite nauseous - pass the bucket quick!!!!

I am not convinced it is a good choice, but then again it will sell abd in big numbers, don't think Mr Cowell at his S Records label will lose any sleep about you not buying it EC76 - in fact about anything any of us say, about the video, the rip off, the exploitation, well the list goes on, but if it gives the 12 Finalists some money I will buy a copy (even if I get a promo copy)

Cheers John

Er as you all well know Simon Fuller has made a Christmas record with the pop idol finalist! Named.......Happy Christmas (war is over)!

Now i might be mad here, but surelly i aint the only one who thinks its really insensitive to release a song called Happy christmas war is over! I mean those who watch the news will know that the war in Iraq is faaaaaaaaaaaar from over and still more people are dying over there. So why the Pop idols think singing "war is over" and selling it as a xmas song is beyond me!

I know Pop idol is huge with the teens and Simon Fuller is rich, but dont they have any shame at all? I mean not only is the title of the song insensitive but its also highly patronising! Bloomin heck do they think we are dumb or something i mean come

I know some of you here will probably think i am blowing things totally out of propotion here and i'm over-reacting but come on.........war is over and Happy Christmas.......I'd rather snog Bush and spank Saddam Hussian thank you

Lala, The song was written by John Lennon. His message was, war is over... if you want it.

Oh yes yes yes but i was just saying its a bit insensitive releasing a new version of that now which would have a totally different meaning at this current time then when John wrote it if you know what i mean!

Okay i'm mad.....i'll shut up

A bit embarrassing for Mr Blair, I suspect, for a classic John Lennon anti-war song to be the Christmas number one.

Dont you think i bit of the meaning would be taken away from the song though with the Pop idol singing it?

Or is just me going mad

okay it is just me

It's still an anti-war song no matter who sings it. If Will Young sings a love song about a woman does that make it any less of a love song?

I don't think it's necessarily the best track to have chosen to release, but still...

I'm not sure, really, why any of the meaning would have been taken away from it because of who is singing it. Presumably the lyrics are the same.

They shouldn't cover a classic song such as that one. I saw the video on The Hits yesterday, and I don't reckon Michelle's voice really sounds right on a professional recording-a bit too whiney for my liking, something I've noticed about her voice recently. And I do think it is an injustice that Matt Dillon gets to be famous after his attack on that poor man five years ago. He even has the look of a cocky git!
I think people are of my opinion about this series of Pop Idol-the people in it aren't as talented as last time around, and I find the likes of frumpy Suzanne just plain irritating-someone vote her off, please!

happened to be in the car last night when Chris Moyles was on - and he was going on about this - its not often he gets serious, but I think he was spot on with this one.

the gist was - *pop idol* - fair enough - Will is a great bloke, and quite a distinct talent. fair enough. gareth gates - caters for the under 12s - fair enough. but now its going a bit too far, this year's lot are nothing special.

john lennon however was one of the greatest songwriting talents this, or any other country, had ever produced. and along with yoko ono - whatever else people may have come to think of her - wrote that song from their hearts, feeling very strongly about the reasons behind it at the time.

so for this to now be covered, as cynically as this, just before Xmas, by a bunch of wannabees, knowing that all the kids will go out and spend their pocket money on it is absolutely appalling.

and its not even raising money for warchild, or for victims of war. its just a cheap way to cash in, and as such is pretty unacceptable.

Iain

PS he did add at the end that if the video featured lap dancers wrestling in jelly it might be a different story. but it doesn't. so it isn't.

Agreed! People like Lennon are REAL musicians, not Pap Idols!
Still, everyone'll get excited when they announce the winner!
And Suzanne? GORGEOUS?! Some taste in women you've got, mate!

Hopefully some good will come out of this and there will be an increase in sales of John Lennon and Beatles albums.

If that is an attack against me, if you knew me, I have no Big Ego, I have worked in the Music Industry since leaving school, just like a footballer, someone wqho has been really lucky doing something they love and I also write music reviews.

What I can say is I have never dubbed a copy of a CD album or single yet! - if I want a copy for the car, if I really like it I buy It!

I respect Artists!

Thanks John

A bit embarrassing for Mr Blair, I suspect

Not as embarrassing as that election anthem, a few years down the road

'Things...... Can Only get Better !'

Errr No
