Hi,

After a great deal of searching I finally have a Humax Foxsat Freesat+ HDR and am delighted with it!

Thankfully my TopUp.TV Thomson box has finally died and as the Foxsat is so good I'm thinking of replacing it with a Humax 9300t. Always like to have as many options as possible.

The only thing thats holding me back is the thought that as both boxes would be from Humax the IR codes from the remotes would be the same and thus I'd be controlling 'both' devices unintentionally.

Does anyone have such a setup, does this prove to be a problem?

The Humax satellite and freeview boxes remotes don't conflict

Confirmed, I have 9300T & HDR operating together here.

Same here the 9300t goes on top of the Humax Freesat PVR and no problems with the remote controlling them seperatately. they 'match' each other in looks as well.

(Admittedly a bit off topic) Interesting that you have one on top of the other. I slavishly followed the manual and have them sitting slightly apart. If there's no interference between the 2 machines (as I presume), I'll try stacking them and tidy the space up a bit.

I have the Humax HDR and Humax 9200 living together without any problems. I can use the HDR remote on the 9200 though

The only annoying thing I dont like about setup is I have to go into av menu to switch to the HDR as it wont automatically switch to it when I switch it on unlike the 9200

Do you have your 9200 connected by SCART and the HDR connected by HDMI? If so, your problem is probably that that your TV won't switch on HDMI but does on SCART.

I have a Sony Bravia TV. It switches on SCART, but not HDMI. I have my HDR connected to it by both SCART and HDMI. That works well enough for SD channels if I'm lazy and for other members of the family. Normally, I will use the AV menu to switch to HDMI, though. There's plenty of time while the HDR boots! This configuration is NOT recommended for people who might never bother switching to HDMI. They are likely to complain that there's no point in having HD. If they are observant, they may even complain that it's worse than SD. And, watched through SCART, they would be right as it will use composite video with HD rather than RGB for copy protection reasons.

Slightly off topic, but like you I have the HDR connected to a Bravia TV and have noticed that the picture quality is slightly better over SCART than HDMI. I have checked that the HDR is outputting 576i, so the TV rather than the HDR is upscaling in both cases. Have you noticed the same difference with your setup?

Not really, but then perceived picture quality is very much down to personal preference. I find that, for SD channels, SCART (RGB) is perfectly acceptable but that HDMI is a little better. I think I can see a difference between 576i and 1080i, but I wouldn't say that one is any better than the other. I use 1080i as switching between SD and HD channels is a lot smoother, the HDR's graphics (e.g. EPG) are a lot sharper, and inset pictures when using the red button display in a much higher resolution.

A lot depends on what you are used to. After a while you get used to something and treat that as "right". Unless there are some very obvious defects, you may perceive as worse something that is actually slightly better if measured in purely objective terms.

My Sony Bravia is the same, better sd from rgb scart.
