I currently have an ASUS x1950 Pro graphics card (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131876) and I've hooked it up to my 32" Toshiba Regza HDTV, which displays a fantastic image at 1920x1080.
Im connecting via a DVI male > HDMI female connector and a standard HDMI cable

However, I cannot figure out how to output the sound from my pc via the HDMI cable to the TV. Can my graphics card do this or is it a generalised limitation of it? I don't really want to have to run another cable (ie 3.5mm phono jack) as the pc is quite away away from the TV!

(this is also posted in the PC section... sorry mods!!)

DVI isn't designed to do sound.

Oh my goodness - not another post on this subject.

DVI might not be designed to carry sound. But all Radeon cards from 2xxx upwards do. They have their own inbuilt audio processors and are usually packaged with a special converter to allow HDMI audio over DVI.

Some recent nVidia cards, while not having their own audio processors, can relay sound via in input on the board to the DVI socket and this is accessible with a special DVI to HDMI dongle too.

Please note this is a duplicate question, and has been asked - and answered - in Computing and Networks.

Hi

if you google a bit you will find that you need the right DVI to HDMI dongle. some dongle do not work with sound as they are wired the wrong way.

I am sure there is a way to check it, but i read lots of post that some people could not get it working unless that have an original ati dongle.
