Hi all,

my wife recently brought a dvd upscaler from argos, its a bush ds-a241, ive just a general question in general

my friends have lent me some james bond dvds which are in dts, the title sections runs and plays the dvd menu with music, but when the movie plays, theres no sound

ive checked the disc on a pc and it plays fine, ive also checked the disc on my ps3 and that plays the movie fine if i select audio track 2

ive tried to change the audio selection on the bush player but it doesnt even give me an option to select another track like the ps3 does

is if possible that the bush can not play dts tracks? or am i missing somthing

ive checked the dvd streams with ifoedit, there are 4 audio streams, ac3 6ch, dts, ac3 2ch, ac3 2ch or can it not play ac3?

its currently connected via component leads to the tv as the hdmi output dont even give sound at all

hopefully someone could shed a little light on this, thanks to anyone who replys

AC3 is Dolby Digital, DTS is a separate soundtrack.

Component only carries the video signal, you will need to source the audio from elsewhere, this could be the analogue outputs (red/white phonos) or optical/coaxial cable connected to a sound system for DD/DTS.

Unsure about the HDMI, I would have thought audio would have been present, are there any options in the setup menu for this connection - has the player got an optical or coaxial output?

How are you connected, is it just to the TV or do you have a sound system?

If you are just connected to the TV you will not get DTS, you may find you will need to go into the setup menu in the DVD player and select something other than bitstream if this has been selected, PCM or stereo may need selecting.

More info would be helpful.....

thanks for your reply,

the player is connected via yellow, red and white plugs currently as the hdmi dont work with sound

the dvd player has no other outputs appart from the red, white and yellow, hdmi and scart

currently the dvd player is only connected the tv

the dvd setup dont have alot of screens, the audio section is:

Audio
Speaker setup - lt/rt or stero
equalizer

dolby screen
dual mono - stereo, l mono, r mono or mix mono
dynamic off, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full

hdmi setup
hdmisetup on, off
audio source auto, pcm

hope this helps a little, think i might just take it back and get a wharfdale or somthing simular

any suggestions on a half decent player

You're not connected via Component but Composite Video. Two very different things.

To be honest if you have a HD Ready or full HD TV then you may be just as well off using SCART and forgetting about HDMI. The TV will upscale anyway and may even do a better job than the Bush. Plus using SCART you can select RGB video format which should give you a better picture than the Composite you are currently using. Assuming the Bush does RGB of course.

I agree with Chris.

Scart set to RGB if at all possible.

You may have to go into the players video setup and select RGB.

This will give you your audio and PQ will more than likely be the best on offer.

With your current setup DTS is not an option I'm afraid.

If you want DD5.1/DTS then you will need to upgrade to a separate sound system.

Sounds like the DTS track or an incompatible one is still selected on the DVD - have you tried cycling through the different soundtracks on the disc?

Can only suggest to look through the audio settings on the player and make sure HDMI setup is set to off and Audio is set to Stereo.

You could try the HDMI - settings would need to be HDMI setup to on and audio set to PCM.

If all settings are correct and you get no sound from either connection there could be a fault.
