Do you have a bunch of wires round the back of a micro hi-fi like you do with a large mini/midi hi-fi?

Less wires, because you have less options.

Most probably just the mains lead and the speaker wires.

Depends - some midi / mini hifis which were all in one units the only wires were speakers, mains connection and radio aerials (FM was always external, some had internal AM aerials).

However some, had each component as a separate e.g. Tuner, Amp, Tape Deck, CD player and those needed additional wires to connect them to the amp and also to ensure a single power source - sometimes it was just ribbon cables others used the phono connections.

At the very least you'll have

speaker x 2
mains
FM aerial
and possibly AM aerial.

Does this help?

If you are thinking of buying an all in on system...I would go for the Denon DM37DAB which has had stunning results:

Cassette! Cool! Old Skool!

Got a very similar little Sony system we use in the kitchen. Sounds pretty decent for such a small unit and our one is years old now.

In terms of wires, ours has:

Mains lead
Speaker wire connecting speaker 1 to hifi unit
Speaker wire connecting speaker 2 to speaker 1 (speaker 2 does not connect directly to the unit)
Optional ariel cables - which we don't bother with

We predominantly use it with an MP3 player which connects to the 3.5mm jack under a little door on the front of it.
