HDMI connectors
Hi, i'll appologise first if this is in the wrong place or there is already a thread on it, i've done a search but couldn't find the information i needed.
We've recently bought a Toshiba 32" Tv and i was wondering what HDMI conectors i would need to connect it to my Compaq Laptop. I've looked on various websites and the cables do not look to have a connection that would fit into anywhere on my laptop?! Hopefully somebody will be able to desphire or that and help me Bexy |

If your computer has one of these [LINK] then you'll need the same type of socket on your TV. This is known as a VGA connector, A.K.A. 15pin D type. This type of sockets does not give a signal that can be used directly with a HDMI port on a TV.
If your computer has a DVI-I or DVI-D connector (see top row of this linked image) then you will be able to buy a DVI to HDMI cable. |

VGA is most likely.
The vast majority of laptops carry it. It's what I connect to my Sony LCD TV with. Results are excellent. (Although I believe VGA may struggle with some higher resolutions. Mine is only a 720p set.) Bear in mind though, you'll need to connect the sound separately unless you have a very specialist connection on your laptop. |
