'SMILING faces lit up the town centre on Thursday when a volley of fireworks and colourful parades marked the switching on of Slough's Christmas lights.
Seconds before 6pm, hundreds of shoppers counted down expectantly as Big Brother star Gos Gosal, local hero Asa Marshal, from Farnham Common, and Slough mayor Laurie Gleeson prepared to push the plunger.
As the festive lights in the High Street began to twinkle, spectacular fireworks were launched off the roof of Queensmere shopping centre and burst into the night sky.
Fourteen-year-old Asa Marshal took her place centre stage after winning an Express and Slough Borough Council competition to find someone who has worked tirelessly for others in the community. Asa's mum, Askia, nominated her daughter, who has cerebral palsy, for all her hard work in running social events for other disabled youngsters.......
Gos said he was thrilled to carry out his first light switch-on, and paid tribute to Asa, who he described as 'a fantastic girl, so full of life. She is wheelchair bound but has done so much for the community'. ....'
