i have just finnished listening to possibly the most heartfelt and poignent album of my life.
i was never a fan of johnny cash to be honest but after my fathe rsaid to me yesterday.
have a listen to this album (The Man Comes Around ) i did this morning and boy is it intense.
the songs are wonderfully arranged and the man is clearly leaving an epitaph in every song.
particular favourites for me are
hurt
bridge over troubled water and desperado.
i was literally crying by the end of the album and my father will have to buy the album again as his copy is now mine lol
a must have for any serious music fan.
anyone else heard it and what did you think ?

This is one of the Rick Rubin produced "American" series of recordings, recorded at a time when Cash's health was deteriorating.

Rubin stripped back the productions, and exposed a frailty in Cash's voice on the simply produced tracks that led poignancy to the lyrics as delivered by a master craftsman.

The choice of tracks was effective...NIN's "Hurt" and the title track being particular standouts, but you are quite right, this is a heartfelt album, beautifully sung and arranged and should belong in everyones record collection...a five star album.

HI Dan,

This is definitely one of my favourite albums ever. Each song is so raw and heartfelt, and its an album i think everyone should listen as it so moving.

Cash's Bridge Over Trouble water is my favourite version of this song ever....just so beautiful.

Theres not a bad song on the album but my own favourites would be Personal Jesus (what a cool version of a brilliant song!), Hurt, Danny Boy (just gorgeous) the title track Man comes Around (wow, the lyrics are so powerful) the and BOTW.

But yep would highly recommend adding this to your collection if you havent got it - its a Must Have.

Man Comes Around

There's a man going around taking names
And he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won't be treated all the same
There'll be a golden ladder reaching down
When the Man comes around

The hairs on your arm will stand up
At the terror in each sip and in each sup
Will you partake of that last offered cup?
Or disappear into the potter's ground
When the Man comes around
